I still dont know that much about ion lasers, but I do know they are really cool!!
So to learn, I just got one. Not sure on the true power, but it was listed as 5mw, but its a:
Spectra-Physics model 133 laser
with a PSU:
Spectra-Physics modal 233 exciter

Well when I got it, the tube came on one time then when out..So after taking the PSU apart I found a burned up wire, fixed it and it would light everytime,but would not laze. All it would do is make a very dim, but cool looking blue-ish,purple light (see pics). Then after it had warmed up some it would flicker and stobe..... then I found this wire (see pics), moved it and the took care of that... So after getting help from (daedal) and messing with it, I pushed on the top tube and it started working!! Now it works everytime you turn it on, unless there the AC is on in my room then it wont come on..I think the PSU is so old it cant take the dip in voltage. But it works,nice red beam,but it has a blue-purple ring around the main beam, which looks really cool!!!

Nice little HeNe you've got there. Glad to hear you got it up and running all on your own. Why did you mount it on a tripod? Planning to do some surveying?

In other news, are you and Cat all set for SELEM? (Less than 3 weeks away, you know...)

Yeah, Ive been super busy... But Im getting back to my old self!!
Well I had some help form (daedal) on this one. But for $25 I couldnt let this one go!!! So after a bit of messing around with it,it seems to work really well!! I just wish I know how old it was...
Im going to bring it along to SELEM!!
Haha!! Well Ive got a beam show still in the works, Ive been working on a new song,since the last FLEM ive been working on it!! So I hope to have a beam show ready for SELEM!!!

Oh and the tripod,It has this plate on the bottom for one,it made it easyer to work on.

Glad you got this beauty up and running finally (although slightly finicky)...

Oh I got the Argon this morning! And all I can say is WOW!!!
This is really really cool!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ive been messing with it ans found a old glass color weel,from an intelligent light,and the colors I get with it is super cool!!!!
