I have emailed Dennis @ Meredith to see if they do FAC lenses to fit straight into these gold mounts. If he does I will let you now price and part number.

    So whats up with this.

@Simon : you've played around with your baby enough. Back to lasers now! Start helping Andy

LOL ive left simon to it, as "apparently" babies are more important than lasers

just dont tell me other half i said that...

ok i now need some design help.

heres my block of copper and my lens

now the plan is to get the copper milled up and mount the diode and lens directly into the copper, with a tec attached to the bottom.

on the lens, both lens are at one end of the case/body. as you can see there is alot of body going to waste.

so my plan is to cut the lens body right down so all ive got is the lens part as one small bit. then mount that on some threaded metal so that i can screw it into the copper heat sink. making an adjustable focus

good idea, bad idea, does not make sense?

Makes perfect sense to me, and sounds good. You'll need to rotate the diode around on its mount once you've got everything together, since those lenses only work properly with the right orientation, but it will be self-explanatory since you'll immediately see the results as you turn so you just turn until the beam looks best. If you rotate the lens instead, it will obviously mess up your focus.. Adjustable focus by rotating in threads is not possible with those lenses since they are dependent on orientation. If you look through the lens you can see that the image is oblong, since these lenses affect one axis more than the other. This is what makes these lenses suitable for multimode diodes, but it also makes them a little harder to work with than a simple convex lens which you can rotate all day long and it doesn't change the way it effects the output.

excellent, is that going to cause issues with combining though a cube then?

It shouldn't as long as each laser module feeding the cube has been fully assembled, adjusted and locked in alignment. Then you just rotate the whole module to achieve the right polarization to get max power through the cube.

ummm rotating the whole things isnt possble as there will be a notch for the tec.

ill have to ave a think on that one

the plan was to flattern part of the copper so i get better tec contact with the copper
