Default Insurance for Laser Show Operator

As a "new to the buisness" laser show buisness individual, I was wondering who some of you use to protect your butt from "getting sued off," in case of anything happening? I need to have something that will protect me the college student from any liability. I'm very safe, but you never know when someone that has a rare but dangerous reaction to laser light and doesn't know it will walk in and blame you for their misfortune.

    Thanks,
    Jonathan

    Hey Jonathan,

I know ILDA was trying to get a cheaper insurance option for it's members. Take a look at this website www.laserist.org and then contact Patrick Murphy when your ready.
Unless your properly varienced by CDRH and have all your paperwork in order, the lawyers would still have a major victory against you. Make sure you go by the book
    on your new venture.

    Best Regards,
    Mark

Thanks Mark, I'm working on filing for a variance now. I'm just looking for advice on who to get insurance from after the CDRH have been satisfied .

    Thanks,
    Jonathan

I'm looking for insurance too. I know with my carpet cleaning buisness there is so much small print they don't cover much of anything. You don't find that out until you need it.

I think you are looking for "single day" or "single event" insurance for some gigs.

googling entertainment insurance produced interesting results.

I know that you can get a million dollar event insurance pretty cheaply, James have you asked the other James we know who he uses for his events?

I found several companies that offer insurance, but I will have to get on the phone with them to find out everything and to get a contract set up with them. I assume you just call a week or two ahead of a gig to plan the one day insurance? As for the variance form, would it be appropriate to attach a page that says, my laser "blank" was purchased from Chatt. TN science theater. Requesting database update to my name?

    Thanks,
    Jonathan

Over here in the Netherlands i did not found one company who wants to insure it.
they all have told me so far that the Basic extended business insurance is all they will provide. And that's a insurance that you are obligated to have over here for an company.

This is off topic, but... I just received an email from wickedlasers offering a 10% off code upon the release of their new pro series lasers. I have heard some negative reports about wicked. And I am assuming it's simply because their way overpriced (because of all the regulatory features they add to make them legal). What suprises me is that they have so many media reviews, wired magazine, guiness, home magazines, etc.. I was just wondering why, if they are so "bad" do they have so much positive attention? Is it because they spend so much on making their pointers "in compliance?" Is it because these good reviews came from people that have so much money to play with, that 2,000 bucks is chump change? I'm just curious to hear your responses.
