Now, while I agree that the risk is real and significant, and that these lasers used in a portable setup are pointless and highly dangerous, the biggest casualty of this will be that any blanket action taken by any of the people involved in this will very likely adversely affect our (hobbyists and some pros) ability to use these diodes as well.. The part that makes me feel all weird inside is that this is all speculation at this point. Any actions that have been taken and will be taken are based solely on speculation. I never like to hear about people freaking out, taking action and causing a ruckus all over mere speculation.. even if the danger is real. I'm speaking about the people who freaked out and went off and told every authority they could about this in the interest of blocking public access based on their speculation about the potential danger. I'm not talking about Casio's lawyers. It's better, IMO, to wait until a real problem presents itself in cases like this before freaking out and demanding action. Statistically, when talking about dangerous handheld devices (or dangerous devices in general) the people who use them irresponsibly are a small minority. In US law, this small minority is almost never enough to justify blanket action. This is no different.

Just had a friend leave me a voicemail today how he heard about this company wickedlasers on the radio and how they have a blue laser pointer that can blind you and burn you.
Adam : I truly trust your rumorsdont get me wrong....
And about your rumors, I HOPE they not only are true, but that something happed to WL also.
I feel that it will not be so fun to have a RGB 800mW laser anymore, when some stupid kid at the club is playing with a 1Watt blue laser toy !
Run a luminance histogram on the only existing Spyder III Arctic picture...
I'll leave the conclusions to you when you look at it.

When I still could have...
If you were the LSO, it would be your duty to ensure there are no unsafe emissions. If that meant shutting down your laser and getting the promoter/security to eject someone then so be it. At bigger events/festivals this shouldnt be a problem. I think the same would apply at most clubs as well. If the event is so far underground that you dont have a contract, I would assume you havnt notified the council either.?
Anyway, if you turn your laser off, someone will soon want to know why. I expect they would comply quite swiftly as they have paid you and want their moneys worth.![]()
Of course not, it's not a requirement of the license if there is no license...If the event is so far underground that you dont have a contract, I would assume you havnt notified the council either.?Not sure how I'd know which council to contact anyway, when I might not find out the venue til a few hours b4 the gig...
People would still be within their rights to sue me though.
You guys get paid in ADVANCE??? Oh, how the other half live....I expect they would comply quite swiftly as they have paid you and want their moneys worth.![]()
At underground events, I make it a point that it is cash on arrival. Or At the very least 50% on arrival. The laser gets switched on when I receive the other 50%.
I occaisonally make a point by sitting somewhere comfortable with a beer or two.
They soon come over with a handfull of door takings.
i found this thread interesting
