Default Anything around Austin, TX or vicinity?

Well, the Ft. Lewis, Washington trip got pushed back, so now I'm en route this weekend to Ft. Hood, Texas for a couple of weeks, with (hopefully) a couple of days off over the Labor Day weekend.

So, anything "laserly" happening around Killeen or Austin, TX?

I may be able to take the Lexel to Lookout Mtn and shine it toward Texas if you'd like.

Sorry brother. Had to say it.

    Randy,

Tim Walsh had mentioned earlier that the Mayborn Planetarium in Killeen had a new solid state, full dome system worth checking out. Should be close...

Looks like there's alot of shows to see. Report back if you go - I've been thinking about heading over there some weekend myself.

I don't know much really lasery other than my house (which always needs more) but if you are into hot chili's there is the Hatch Chili Festival in Hatch, NM you can watch me try and win the pepper eating contest . If you do that there is White Sands stuff nearby, but that is a long drive for the weekend (if you do it PM me and I have an extra room or an attached guest house my landlord rents out).

But other things to do could include the Shiner Brewery in Shiner Texas, also Dr. Pepper factories (with REAL cane sugar) and lots of other stuff in Austin other than humidity I am sure. You may be able to do some NASA stuff in Houston (don't have a clue there). If you are ever in New Mexico you are welcome to visit, although Texas is a BIG place I figured out L.A. is closer to my house than Dallas (by 30 minutes but...).

    Good Luck,
    Adam

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

You know Randy, it might be worth your while to contact Tim Walsh at Laser Spectacles and see what he's up to. I seem to remember that they hold laser gatherings in local caves near where he lives from time to time. If you're lucky you might have timed your visit right and be able to take in one of those events. (At the very least, you could try to get together with Tim over a beer or two and just chat... After all, it's not every day you get the chance to meet the ILDA President, right?)

Thanks for all the ideas -

I think I'll drop an e-mail to Tim and see if we can get something stirred up!!

    Hey Stuka,

Tim Called me yesterday. Yes, we have lasers in Killeen. Drop me a line and we'll find a time to play. I've got a few tricks up my sleeve that I wouldn't mind showing off. Fulldome laser is reason enough to stop by, but aside from the QM2000 in the system, I've also been beta testing and assiting in the development of some very cool software that will be released soon. Maybe we will get a chance to play with that too.

    COOL!
    I'll definitely be in touch!

It's starting to look like my trip to Ft. Hood might not completely suck after all!!
