his variance letter. (must keep it on him at all times when doing shows).

    insurance letter stating coverage.

look at the projector(s) themselves, make sure you see a label stating that the product is in compliance. you should alse see the variance number ON the projector. look for manufacture date(s) also.

if this is a relatively big show, and the person/company is not properly licensed your event can have a VERY GOOD chance of being inspected and the laser(s) NOT being allowed to be used.

what company is it? most likely one of us here will know of the company.

You could ask for a copy of their variance approval from CDRH. Generally only the first page is needed as subsequent pages are like "attachments" that describe what's on the first page. The first page sets forth the dates for which the variance is in effect. If the show is an outdoor show, they will also likely need approval from FDA, and generally the approval would come by fax. You could ask to see a copy of that as well.

Also, you could ask (or simply find out for yourself on the web site) if they are an ILDA member. If the company is an ILDA member, it is a good sign (not necessarily the ultimate sign, but at least a step in the right direction).

    Best regards,

Thanks for the fast response. Its not a company but a friend of a friend, that's why I wanted to be 100% sure. It shouldn't be a large show but who knows, still working on that part :P
