    Default FS: Lightwave Half-Note 2.5W 532nm system

    I am selling my Lightwave Half-Note system to make some money for a new laser system. This is the medical version of a Lightwave model 244 system dubed "Half-Note". This is a suprisingly small DPSS Nd:YAG laser with a very stable and efficient cavity design. It uses a CCP diode bar to side pump a small 1.6x14mm YAG rod held in a gold reflector mount. The diode requires no alignment or lensing thus making it a very inexpensive part to replace. The standard part is a 20W bar which runs at about 25A, I have replaced the old bar with a new 40W unit which is under driven for long life and lower heat load.

    The laser makes about 2.4W at 24A with the new diode and with temperatures tuned. The head is about 7x5x2" and is mounted on an enormous heatsink using a large TEC. The TEC is brand new, and works wonderfully, the heatsink is total overkill, the laser only dissipates about 40W max and requires a heatsink about the size of a CPU cooler, it was mounted on this unit to allow for super low fan speeds resulting in nearly no sound.

    I have added an umbilical cable to the laser to allow it to be operated separate of the power supply. The umbilical uses very nice stranded 10 gauge silver tinned copper wire for the TEC and laser diode. The signals from the head are sent through a 26 conductor shielded cable. The result is a super flexible 6 foot umbilical cable which is perfect if you want to use the laser as a separate module, or integrate it into your projector.

    These lasers can easily be integrated into projectors. They have amazing beam quality out of the aperture. This one has a very very small spot at over 150 feet.

    This laser has a very special power supply which is a bit of a pain to figure out at first, but makes a ton of sense once everything is mapped out. This is a medical laser, that means it is designed to go into alarm mode whenever it senses any out of the ordinary with the head, that is both a good thing and a bad thing. The good part is that it is hard to cause damage to the head because it will shut it down before anything happens, the bad part is that it will shut it down if anything happens.

    I have the power supply fully mapped out and have full schematics of the system including the head and power supply board. The pinouts are all here and they are all complete with everything you need to run it. The laser comes with a copy of the service manual as well as a copy of all of my notes and directions for the system.

    For a person who wants a high power green laser, this is ideal, it is a great laser because you can easliy align it, replace the pump diode, experiment with different temperatures, and more, all without doing complex design changes or reverse engineering, that is already done for you .

    For someone who wants to put the laser into a projector, this is also ideal, it is very small, smaller then a comparable Chinese system with the same beam specs, and yet is much more stable, much better beam specs, and much cheaper .

    Actually, you should be posting beam shots, and spot shots, and showing us the math on how you work out the divergence... Lil extra credit for school or something.

    According to this, the beam divergence is about 0.21mRad when taking the measurement at 175 feet and comparing it to the measure at the aperture.

    BAH!!! I want to see the math on paper... Damn calculating web sites... Your camera also makes that 175 feet seem shorter than that. Nice beam shot though.
