I did send him a email explaining the situation and he is willing to take it back.

But sending it back is not a n option:

I already paid $50,- shipping and insurance and $80,- customs, sending it back will cost a additional $50,- bringing the total loss of $180,- for a product I paid $270,- for

So when I return it I will only get $270 – $180 = $90,- back in the end.

180 euro is actually pretty cheap. It is usually several hundred dollars to get the pair calibrated.

I would expect the seller to refund the entire purchase price, including shipping as it was clearly not used and completely different.

Its not the pair, 180 euro (180 euro + 19%fat = 314USD) is for the sensor only, not the meter.

Do you think its also needed to calibrate the meter?

Oh, sorry, i misread your post. That is pretty standard for a detector calibration. The meter does not need calibrated, however I sent both in when I got my system done just so they could ensure the accuracy. If one is off, it doesn't matter how accurate the other is. The meter you got is in calibration though.

Last Thursday I visited -Bart- to test my meter with a calibrated Ophir meter.

We tested with a 8mW HeNe, 3W halfnote and some other lasers I can't remember .

The bad thing is the meter gives a 15% higher rating compared to the Ophir, the good thing is it was 15% for all types of lasers.

    -Bart- thank you!

The seller of the PM3 offered me to credit me half of the purchase price, and I accepted his offer. I think this is better than sending it back for complete credit. I can use this money to pay a small part of the repair costs of the head.

    Thumbs up Action Systems inc.

Action Systems payed me back half the purchase price, so Action systems is in my eyes a reasonable seller. And would do business with him in the future.
