I can't say I've ever seen a system use DPSS and AOMs together, but I've thought about it myself. There's a bit of loss involved with AOMs and I was thinking also of using galvo blanking. It's limited to TTL without getting too complicted but for a green-only beam show I don't think that's really a major problem.

Can't wait for some green diodes!!! I like DPSS because I'm fascinated by how they work, but I'm ready for all-diode RGB..

AOM's are used in DPSS lasers all the time for engraving etc... I actually have been looking at buying some to have around (make sure you get the driver to if you do so). But the real thing I want is going back to ion lasers, a PCAOM so you can make white light then get the colors you want. The issue with AOM's in general is the losses which occur. You could almost do a separate show with the waste beam... Mixedgas, Laserman532, or Laseronics can chime in about PCAOMs and correct things now.

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

Many pros use AOs on DPSS green. Gets rid of a lot of issues fast. And the loss is negligible with modern AOs. Makes blanking something like a verdi or mellenia childs play.

if you start off with enough power...losses dont mean much

Exactly! Coherent tells you to use a AOM on the Viper (Verdi w/o Etalon) because of the poor modulation quality.

laser animation sollinger once did this with their high power greenies I believe
