Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

Revo Sunglasses
From LoveToKnow Sunglasses
The History of Revo Sunglasses
Revo sunglasses have been around since 1985, when founder Mitch Ruda, an optical engineer, decided to adapt technology developed by Nasa, and use it to create sunglasses.
Revo 4011 Italian polarized glasses
It was a revolutionary idea. The technology in question was the special coating NASA gives the portholes on its satellites to protect them from radiation found in outer space. You may think this is a little over the top for a sunglasses brand, but Revo's many fans would surely disagree: the protection afforded by the glasses, and the excellent quality of vision they provide, cannot be argued with, and are one of the main reasons for the brand's continued popularity.

So what glasses are in the NatGeo pic?
I am personally an Oakley man... Not sure about their history.![]()
I really dont remember, but I think they were my motorcycle glasses.
ah haaaaaa! i knew I would find it...read the abstract and see that the assignee was coherent inc. the coatings were invented for sunglasses. this is when the patent was granted, I know I had a pair earlier than 1988....but then again...living in the silicone valley...I also had friends at CoherentI remember they were "very special" and probably "confidential" at the time too!

Same here man. I've had these for 11 years now and wouldn't be caught dead without them. Titanium rocks! Virtually unbreakable and they fit like a glove. I have used them in a pinch as laser safety glasses.(The coating looks quite similar to Pat's HeNe glasses.)
