Default Best electronics kit for kids

I got a Radio Shack 150-in-1 electronics kit for my 8th birthday. it was great; spent countless hours learning and making the projects. I learned a great deal from it, knowledge still in use today. (I've never had formal electronic education).

Question is: My 9 year old daughter has been expressing interest in all things circuits. What is the best kit out there now? RadioShack isn't what it used to be - unless you want a cellphone.

I have tons of these old kits still, those were my electronics education as well. Why not go on ebay and get some for her. Thats where i got mine recently. Playing on them brings back memories

for a young person, maybe a little older, you'd like a copy of the book:

Electronic Circuits for the Evil Genius

And about 30$ in parts and some of your time. Most of the parts, you already have.

Haha, I am very retarded with it comes to electronics, and it's funny that I want to get in this hobby. I was actually thinking about buying a kit for me to learn the basics.

I had one of those as a kid too- they were awesome. I remember that as I started getting older, I would occasionally break it out and rob a component if I was in the middle of a project and having a "parts crisis".

    Thumbs up

Another recommendation: Forrest Mim's "Getting Started in Electronics". It's easy to read, and though it starts out with the absolute basics, by the end the reader will be ready to try some of the demo circuits listed in the back.

I remember I had a simple little book called: 100 Electronic circuits !
It was a simple book with 100 different circuits to build..

Maybe not for 6-9year old kid..
    But maybe 9-16 year.

I loved that book , and it was that little book that make me inspired to build myself small little blinking LED modules, alarms, door-bells and allot more :-)
