    Smile Hello From Western Australia

    Hi everyone,
Long time lurker 1st time poster. I thought it was time I introduced myself.

I live in the laser bad land, Perth Western Australia.

My fascination with lasers started back around 1995 buying 3mW red diodes and 5mW HE-Ne lasers from electronics surplus company Oatley Electronics in Sydney.
Unfortunately my finances at that time didn't allow me to go much further with things but my enthusiasm and machining skills cam in handy making optics mounts and lumina wheels for my friends two 100mW Omnichrome argon laser projectors. My other love is dance music and I went to as many raves as I could from 93 onwards.

Fast forward to today and I still love dance music and after investigating the current state of laser technology my eyes lit up… Yeah!!!! wow how things have changed.
Now its really possible to be part of the show.

What I want to do is build my own RGB projector somewhere between 1 and 4 Watts….Ewww… I can hear people wince with concern. don't worry I'll be sensible

I'm taking a pretty cautious approach to making a start, this is Perth after all. I know W.A. has a rep. for being strict and for saying no to a lot of things but I hope with
a careful, safe and methodical approach I can make it happen.

    I've got a big job ahead of me I fear but I'm making progress. What I've achieved so far is;

-Done my laser safety course (limited and very general, not specific to light shows.)
-Passed the laser safety officer exam.
-Paid for my licence for three years which allows me to own and use class 3b and 4 lasers for entertainment purposes.
    -Bought the Australian/New Zealand Standards 2211.1: 2004 (IEC 60825-1:2001 MOD) and 2211.3: 2002 (IEC 60825-3:1995)

I joined PL a few months ago and have beed lurking and trawling for info every day, thanks everyone, you have already saved me thousands!
Also I have a fain't hope that I will be able to audience scan one day when I understand fully how to do it safely.

I want to get to a stage where I would feel confident to explain to the W.A. radiological council how I did my calculations and show them my measurements before I consider audience scanning.

    Realistically any purchases are still months away but the equipment I'm considering is;

    -QM2000.net
-EyeMagic EMS-infinity 4000 scanners with 5mm aperture mirrors and EMA-1900 hi speed drivers.
    -EyeMagic ColorSafe
-Coherent FieldMaxII TO and PM3 sensor
    -445 or 473 Blue
    -532 Green
    -640 Red
    Beam divergence optics.

    Lots of questions to come.

Perth has an abundance of sunlight and hopefully with the help of the PL family I can shine coherent light on this part of the world to.

Thanks for the great community, you guys are my kind of people.

    Have fun

    Kit

Hi and welcome to the forum. I also love dance music and lasers

Looks like you're going about things the right way. Take your time with the build and never worry about asking questions.

    Hey Kit-

Welcome to the forum my friend! Its good to see you are doing things the right way by researcing the logistics with lasers beforehand and taking the proper steps to become licensed in your area. good job man!

you have your eye on some pretty top notch laser equipment. what overall power are you looking to get out of your projector one completed? , 1W? 2W?

i know you say between 1 and 4 watts. although thats a budget of thousands upon thousadns of sollars difference. perhaps try to narrow it a little bit. maybe between 1 and 2 watts and leave room to expand later on?

ask as many questions as needed.

    Hello Ian,Marc,Karl,White Light and Edison

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
Sorry if I am a bit unco with my posts. I have never posted on any forums before.

-Ian, indeed, there is something that captures my imagination with dance music, it never stops evolving and it's always ready to accept change to
allow an exciting new future. As for lasers, it's like the universe is winking at us as it reveals one of it's wondrous secrets.

-Marc and Karl thanks for the clues. My plans are still quiet fluid but at this stage I think I'll start out with a 1.2Watt 532nm CNI…..stay tuned Dave and Adrian….

-White Light, Hello. I once worked and stayed in South Newbald while on a working holiday in the UK. It was such a friendly little town. what was really amazing was that all the people in the corner shop we bought our lunch at already new who we were when we walked in! we indulged ourselves in our rock star fame for a few moments but came back to earth with the realisation that "Wow this is a small town". Damm! We spent our time dismantling
green houses in the rain and mud for 5pounds an hour when I could have been up the road checking out your lasers. Well thanks to PL now I know better.

-Edison Hi mate thanks for the props on our coastline. I grew up Albany down Esperence way. I don't know if you know but a Dutchman called Dirk Hartog was the first european to reach Western Australia in 1616 up near Shark bay. Dirk Hartog Island is named after him.

Photos. I don't have any laser pics yet but I put up some machining pics for the blood thirsty photo hounds

    Take care new friends
    Kit
