    Default Blu Ray rips

ok. i got the blu ray drive in. I got the partition issues worked out.

i downloaded AnydvdHD to "rip" the blu ray to my HD.

about 45GB, its on the drive. now what? how do i play it? lol.

do i need another program to convert the rip (i did a "rip disc to HD" *and* i did a "rip to image") to a playable file?

    thanks!

would it not be better to create an iso file of the DVD with alcohol 120% and then store these "images" on your HD then mount them with an iso mounter like alcohol 120% so windows media player in 7 plays them or even divx I believe would play them or at least convert them..... I don't know as I have never mess with blue ray yet.

use virtual clone drive to mount the image as a disk in a virtual drive and play it like a regular disk in a physical drive

i will try that. i am trying what i think may not be possible.

i have spent COUNTLESS hours (until 4:30 am last night. yeah, im a loser!) trying to figure this out.

    1. rip the blu-ray to my HD. i get the rip fine. (anydvd hd rips it perfectly). this is on one of my network drives.

    2. i am trying to convert that file into an mpg or mp4 or avi or *something* that can be ready by my network as a "playable" file.

    3. i want to be able to play the file upstairs on my plasma from the file i just ripped on my HD (network drive) downstairs.

i dont think this is possible yet. at least not in a humanly "simple" way. I am still a little unsure of what this mounting .iso crap is. i will have to try and read up on this.

why does everything have to be so dificult? why cant sh*t just work?

what are you trying to play it on? now your increasing your complexity several times over, you need to figure out what your device supports first...

an ISO file is a disk image, basically an exact copy of the disk, just in one big file... as far as I know, NO device can playback a bluray ISO at the moment... personally I keep them all as ISO's and then play them back on a PC using VCD and PowerDVD

have done that before nothing to be ashamed of except when you don't sleep at all then you know your dedicated : )

What is the format of this file so we know what were working with should be able to right click properties

on your plasma I am guessing you have a computer hooked up directly to the plasma and the Ethernet? other wise I have no idea how you would hook a plasma unless it had Ethernet built in to it

it does unless you try to do crazy stuff like your set up : )

Powere DVD is nice I have that and would recommend it when you go the .iso route also like i said before Alcohol 120% is a great program for making and mounting iso's all in one

not sure how alcohol 120% handles br disks if at all... anydvd HD is fine for making the ISO's but personally i use AnyDVD HD to handle the disk encryption and use IMGBurn to make the ISO image from the disk...

after that I have a 20~50gb ISO file on my server that I can just double click on on my media pc and mount it as a disk in a virtual drive using virtual clone drive... after that I can use PowerDVD and just play it like if it were a physical disk in an actual br drive...

you can also burn it back to a blank br disk and it will function identically to the original disk in a standalone br player

    here is my problem(s)

    1. my media PC that has all of my storage is downstairs in my office.
    2. i use anyDVDhd to rip the movie to this pc (with about 1+TB of storage.)
    3. The .iso is there. great. thats perfect. i am sure i can mount the file on *this* pc fine to watch it on *this* pc. however-

    4. i use THIS "media streamer" wirelessly to get the media off of my server downstairs.

    5. i am able to stream .avi's fine. other DVD rips that i made (regular DVD, not blu-ray) just fine. (that WD thing, is pretty cool actually).

my problem is i *still* cant figure out how to take that enormous blu-ray ripped .iso and make it into a readable computer file so that i can navigate to it from my plasma upstairs through this media streamer.

i'm sure i am trying to make this 10,000 times more dificult than it needs to be. i just cant seem to figure it out.

    i need a beer!

so you just want to convert from blue ray to avi? like this?

    first link is how
    http://www.ehow.com/how_5086943_convert-bluray-avi.html
    second is where
    http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Converter.aspx

So I am guessing you would use your anydvd thing to make the unlocked iso of the disk and then mount that iso so you could use one of those converters to convert it into avi so you can stream it up to your avi to HDTV box

that cant play bluray iso's... the only thing that i know of that is even close is the C200 from popcorn hour

    http://www.popcornhour.com/onlinesto...nfo&item_id=12

you have to convert your BR rips to MKV h/x.264 files for the WD box, and good luck streaming them wirelessly unless you drop the bitrate significantly
