    Default Just bought a Laser-wave 640!

    So, I just bought a 200mW laser-wave 640nm module

Anyone else got one? How do they (over)perform?

Also, I have been told they can be combined with another red laser with a PBS cube, which means they must use a single 640nm diode? How do they correct the beam size?

Now to play the waiting game, hopefully EMS doesn't take too long!

I'll probably do a review on it when I get it too.

    Cheers,
    Dan

Overperforming would be a bad thing on these I would guess. Since it's direct diode, it would mean it is being overdriven

That's not necessarily true. It's very possible that they use multiple diodes and re-polarize the light before collimation with a polarizer or wave-plate.. It would be easiest to just use a multimode diode that provides the proper amount of output and then shape the beam using custom optics or fiber.

    Enjoy your new laser!

*yes* they can be combined via a PBS.

You'll love it! very small also.

I have one. Same thing 200mW@640nm

It performs great! Color, brightness, beam quality, module size... all incredible. Just like the low-power LW greens if you have one. Very easy to mount.
The beam is extremely tight. Fits perfectly with green and blue DPSS lasers. You won't be disappointed.

    What diode is inside?

Have you got any pics/vids of it, and the dot/beam? I can only seem to find pix of the larger models

Should be here this week sometime, as long as EMS isn't bogged down for xmas too (Been waiting for an airmail package from Hong Kong since the 2nd of December )

As for price, I'd get in contact with a distributer closer to your area

I've just picked up a 350mW 640nm unit, and roughly swapped it out out for my ~400mW 660nm,
and it makes a hell of a difference.
    I mean a SERIOUS difference.
It now makes colours I never though possible...

Images and that to follow of the updated build soon-ish...

Hey Dan... You need to combine those babies, ask Rob

I have a dual Maxyz 660nm and the 640nm Laserwave combined and the red is beautiful

    Best of both worlds
