    Default Custom Optical Breadboards

I have access to a CNC machine shop and would consider making a run on optical breadboards if I could get at least 5 people interested.

I understand there would be a variety of dimensions requested, I can accomodate any length/width/height and thread size. I presume most will want 1/4-20 every square inch.

Material would have to be cast aluminum. Cast aluminum is the sensible choice due to its light weight and resistance to warping.

Approximate pricing would depend on thickness:

    1/2" - $65 sq/ft
    3/8" - $60 sq/ft

I am also offering to send breadboards off for black anodizing, at an additional cost, which will depend on how many people we can get together.

Please message me with your specifications and I can give a more precise quote. If you are 100%, please also include your name, address, phone #, and email. I am assembling a list. Once we get 5 people I will send out an email. I will have to collect payment before ordering material, because if you fail to pay after I am done with your breadboard, I am stuck with it

    Confirmed

    Regular:

    1. swamidog- (1) 3' x 2' x 3/8" 1/4-20 every square inch.

    Black Anodized:

    1. Synce- (2) 10" x 14" x 3/8" 1/4-20 every square inch.

Holy COW! Thats < .50 per hole drilled and tapped...I was thinking more on the lines of $1.00 per hole. That is a great price especially if they will make them custom lengths and widths.

EDIT: if you look at the one for SUGEEK it was 10-32 on half inch centers...

It is pretty cheap, most of the cost in those prices is relative to raw material. If I can get at least 5 people on a group buy, I will sacrifice a weekend and crank some breadboards out.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Anodized? (yes - great price, no insult intended - just curious. Everything I am working on is black anodized)

    Thx,

I'd be up for ordering one of these. Especially if it will be in a few weeks so I can save some cash.

Anodized would depend on size. It would cost me a lot to send just 1 breadboard out. For example, a black anodize for a 2' x 2' could run around $120 and maybe $50 each afterward. Holes would not be masked, but the builup on the thread would be minimal and would not be an issue. Please send me specifics.

Powder coating is not good, you will loose the flatness and it may chip, anodize is the way to go.

I had never anodized cast so i didnt know if it were possible...FYI- a while back MOPHEAD linked me a home anodizing procedure which was fairly simple...any way I cant find that but if you google home anodizing a bit you will find it...
