Thumbs down eBAY LASERS - Big Dipper

I video filmed under the casing of a Big Dipper K100 30mW laser to check it out.

The verdict - If Chinese dog food kills the dogs, I know where the recycled dog food tin cans end up.

I now have nightmares...the bend angle on those screws...looks like something out of a Viagra advert.

Would be a good post if it wasn't for the fact that you appear to flout some of the very same rules yourself:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/30mW-GREEN-DJ-...d=p3911.c0.m14

Your 30mw green laser, no key switch in sight:

CE sticker displayed despite this on the laser and banner in your advert.

According to ILDA hardware guidelines, a Class 3b laser should have a keyswitch: http://www.laserist.org/files/ILDA%20safety7b.pdf

The same ILDA guidelines also say this is based on IEC 60825-1 and that in Europe compliance with IEC 60825-1 is a requirement for CE marking - from the ILDA guidelines:

"Some countries have adopted the IEC Standard under legislation (for example in Europe, it is a condition of CE marking for equipment covered by the Low Voltage Directive)."
Yet your product doesn't appear to comply but is still CE marked.

And worst of all, your an ILDA member and advertise the fact as a selling point:

Maybe some of the other ILDA members on here might like to take this up with ILDA as I understood that ILDA members were supposed to follow a code of conduct regarding sales and safety.

For the price I'd say you got what you paid for... Lasers are an expensive hobby. If you want the best, fork over the big bucks. Does it work as described? If so, I'd say the seller did his job. Sorry, but good lightshow equipment can't be had for a couple hundred dollars unless it's stolen or you make everything from scratch.

    That's my opinion...

    RGBLaserFan,

Good to hear from you. I drew you out at last. Patrick sent me your email.

The thread is about product manufacturing quality not editorial content of a product listing.

I see you have been watching my listing as it now states the class of laser and you dont mention this. This is a key point of the video too - laser classification and FDA variance waivers.

So now I can finish editing of the listing to insert "does not have interlock or keyswitch" to be COP compliant. I know this document well. I wrote 90% of it.

The promotion of the ILDA membership is actually encouraged. Our role is to promote the safe use of lasers in the entertainment industry. It is shown as an honor mark - not a selling point and that is what ethics is all about.

On a final note which is the root of everything is that I do not sell non varianced lasers into the USA. Think deeper.

So what you're saying is your product is just as crappy as his.... Hmm,,, How interesting. If you're here to stomp on someone else's crappy projector I'd say it backfired and... Well, you get the point.

You don't get anywhere slamming your competitors. It just hurts you. Learn some business ethics and promote your product in a different way.

    DJ Traximus,

Maybe I was a little harsh with my tone though re-reading what I said. It was late I was tired, what can I say..

I'm going to PM you as I don't think having this discussion in public is helpful to your business which is why I contacted you privately in the 1st place.

Well to tell the truth I never mentioned anything about my products or made any formal assessment on the BD laser other than observation. Business ethics they teach for MBA now is a bit more proactive rather sit back and throw rocks.

Perhaps you know why the laser is classified as class 1 device - I have seen the same sticker on a 400mw rgb. Toot toot.
