Keperex: HAHA! Actually, it's "Turd Chaser"... I work at a wastewater treatment plant after all! We've always called ourselves "Turd Chasers". (Seriously!) Still, I appreciate the sentiment.

(Turd Burglar, on the other hand, is a redneck term for a homosexual, and it's normally not meant in a nice way at all.)

James: I know now what you mean about having your skeleton messed with! Ugh. This sucks! Fortunately, it appears that the surgery went well. Most of the problems with my leg are gone. Some lingering numbness, but the doc said that it will pass in time.

Of course, now my back hurts where they cut me open! But that's not as bad as I had thought it would be. The pain is controlled rather well with just 5 mg percocet, which is really weak stuff. Moving around fairly well now. (Well enough that I can sit in a chair and type this, anyway!) Will probably be another week or two before I can go back to work though, and several months before I'll be able to lift anything heavy again.

Thanks to EVERYONE for all the well wishes. You guys are the best. Thanks also for the phone calls and e-mails. Nice to know that people care.

Karl - what can I say. I'm touched that I'm higher on your list than anal beads. I'll try to keep that in mind when I'm shopping for your next Christmas gift! Seriously though - I needed a good chuckle. There's been damn little to laugh about lately...

And Doc: Just a word of caution: If you had nerve pain like that, it can come back! Best to have an MRI and see what was pushing on the nerve to cause the pain. Sure, anti-inflammatory drugs will stop the nerve from swelling (which gets rid of the pain in most cases) but if there's something pushing on the nerve (or close enough to it that a simple nudge is all it takes to get it to push on the nerve again), then the pain can come back. Don't forget that nerve damage is cumulative! That's one reason why I didn't wait on this surgery. There's nothing that will put herniated disc material back into place, and the body won't absorb it either. The only way it's coming out is surgery.
