Default Laser pointers in the news again

    http://news.yahoo.com/video/us-15749...lanes-23407336

They mention background checks could be in the near future.

"A dozen pilots reported laser beams shot right at their eyes...."

    Imagine that eh!
Hitting something so small as an eye moving at hundreds of miles an hour a couple of miles away.
Why aren't they signing up these kids with lasers to be The Worlds Best Snipers?

Or perhaps it's more hyperbole from the press looking for yet more bad guys to go "Tut tut something should be done about it...".

I understand the supidity of someone that shines a Laser at
an operating Aircraft. They should do hard time if caught just for being
    a waste of Oxygen.

But yeah... nothing like over exaggerated propaganda...
Would be more believable if they were honest....

Next thing you'll hear is that a stewardess got pregnant from a 523nm
    beam shot right in her...........

..well, ya know, Jerry - they can "transfer stuff" from one place to another, with a laser-beam... don'cha remember 'Tron'??

I'm just waitin for the 'incident' when a mindless TSAgent gets a pointer-shot in the eye, when they insist on taking it out of a traveling-laserists' bag, for 'inspection' - and - Doh! - point it at their face when they press the button... I actually (almost) had this happen, one time, traveling - but I was astute-enough to have taken out the batteries...

    peace...

Let's hope it's captured as a "YouTube Moment"
Anyone old enough to remember when they were "Kodak Moments"?

Although I suspect the owner of the laser would be the one prosecuted for assault with a deadly weapon.
    C'est la vie!!

    Laser Warning

Man, this shit is getting old. Not only the brainless idiots that shine lasers at aircraft, but the equally brainless media pundits who morph these incidents into some sort of "terrorist threat".

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: if a terrorist organization really wanted to affect air travel using lasers, they damn sure wouldn't use visible lasers! IR lasers are cheaper, more powerful, and best of all, the beam is invisible! Oh, and there's no aversion or blink response, and no pain.

But are the news agencies harping about the dangers of flashlamp pumped YAG's? Hell no, because they're not sexy enough. But a 1 watt blue pointer? Yeah, that will get the public's attention. Never mind that it's got the divergence of a flashlight...

    Ignorant bastards...

Agree with Adam 100%. Been that way since the very first laser was announced, then tagged a "death ray" by some unknown ignorant hack writer to sell a few more newspapers. A moron on a mission, exactly as today.
