Great Pics!!!
Here's the video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG2zC55O4Og
I'd say the music was appropriate...
Looks like his right engine went out in a controlled stall maneuver.... 4 seconds to eject, 5 seconds to impact. Amazing photos.

I should have rented the space under my name for advertising.
When I still could have...
It was engine failure. Worst time ever to try and restart too.
On a side note.... I like airshows but military aircraft are designed for combat not stunts.
Perfect examples...

Nice pics if a little worrying - it almost looks as if the pilot might land in the fireball. Having watched the video I know that he doesn't but it looks that wasy for a while.
Also, find the music quite ironic, the airfield were playing the Bee Gees "Staying Alive" when it happened!!!
Steve...you think it may have been pilot error counting on the >25 knot headwind ? See windsock in pix. It could have lulled for a couple of seconds destroying the laminar flow of air. I know the F-18 has LE slats for slow flight....but no good if the flow is lost. Sounds like he tried to apply power too late as well....glad he's out OK. I think the P and W power plants would not have enough torque to incite a noticable "P" factor.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt & selling it in a garage sale.
