OK managed to source a new power supply but its $150 ! + shipping of between $30 to $120 depending on service + import charges and import management fee ...Ooopsss

Heres what the manual says i required .... which i dont fully understand so if anyone can point me to a relevent power supply in UK it would be appreciated

" +/-0v to +/-30V DCvia 4 pin labled powe, Red is positie , green is ground, black is negative. Typically a 2 x 18v , 100w transformer , recified and filtered with 6800uf/35V capacitors in each rail is sufficient for a pair of scanner. Stabalized and switching power supplys can also be used.if you use switching PS , make sure it can deliver at least 50W in each rail to ensure reliable operation. "

    Any help appreciated

    Paul

    I don't understand either Paul.

Can you type exactly what it says in the manual re the voltage.

Will also need to know the approximate current draw from the scanners?

I would buy 2 24v power supplies from HK.

    Like this one 48watts.

I can't wouch for this seller as it's just an example but all my scanners, lasers and other electronics projects are powered from cheap hong kong psu's like this one.

    Hi Lasermad,
I've got the same scanners to but haven't got to the stage of firing them up yet. Have a chat to dsli_jon and also Dave. They both have used them extensively.

Also I think I remember Dave saying you need to add a diode somewhere if you use switch mode supplies with them.

Let me know how you go.

    Good luck

A -24v, 0, +24v 100watt swich mode psu, or 2x 24v 50watt with isolated secondaries will far exceed the requirements described in the manual.

Adding a diode will only drop the voltage with 0.6volts and cripple the psu's ability to compensate for backsourges (that will never happen with the ema-1900 or ema-1200 drivers usually found with the ems-4000's anyway)

The diode is needed to stop the positive regulator on the ems board locking up if the negative rail rises first - As what can happen if 2 separate switchmodes are used.. Easy fix tho.
