Default Driving 445nm diodes with Die4Drive

When I sold my kits I was smart enough to hold onto one die4drive - thank god!

Just a quick question in anticipation of the arrival of the diodes (thanks danielbriggs!):

Should it be possible to use a 5V PS to drive a 445nm diode with the die4drive or is the voltage drop to high?

a standard red driver will run a 445 diode but not at full power.

a blu-ray driver from robin can run a 445 at over a watt

I think you will need more than 5v unless the drive contains a voltage booster.

Here's some relevant information from a private communication with Robin regarding using the die4drive with bluray lasers (should also apply to 445 nm).

Please note hat the D4Drive was not designed for driving blue ray diodes but will do so with a few modifications-

    1) The Vf of the blue ray diode is approx. 5V so you need to increase the
supply voltage to 7 to 9 V. Tant must be rated for this voltage.
    2) The D4Drive uses the supply as a reference for setting the offset current
(and also setting the operating current when DRV linked to SET)
This means you have to use a regulated 7.5V or 9V supply and the o/p current
listed in the drive tables -
    http://www.die4laser.com/dvd-rec/Die...iles/Drive.xls has to be scaled
for the new supply. 9v will give 9/5 times more current.
You can put in a new supply voltage into the spreadsheet....

i got some custom 405 drivers from robin.

its easy to mod a red driver to a 405 driver

Thanks for the info. Looks like I need to find a 7.5V supply then for full power.

BTW Robin has been very helpful in providing information when I had the plan to drive blurays, he even sent me replace parts to make sure it would work. So same applies to the 445nm diodes. I was merely hoping that the diode's slightly lower voltage drop than the 405's would allow standard 5V operation of the die4drive.

Question having problems driving 445nm diode to full power with die4laser driver.

I am new t o this forum but I am active with LPF for over 2 years now, on and off. \

    I just got 3 die4drivers and 2 High power 445nm ones. I am driving the 445nm with a 5v 3A psu but cutting 2 traces #2 and 3 I can only get 369.9mA out of the driver.
    Do I need more current?

Trace (jumpers) 2 and 3 don't register any connection. Am I doing something wrong?

    Help would be appreciated.
