Default Wanted - Fiber Optic Launcher

    Hi

Does anyone on here have a 'Proper' fiber optic launcher that they want to part with, or can anyone get their hands on one?

I have a cobbled together launcher that sort of works o.k. but it's inclined to drift out of alignment if knocked and the adjustment is a bit course making alignment difficult. Ideally i'd like to get my hands on a second user Newport or Melles Griot unit (far too expensive new ), but if you have a decent one of any other make then please get in touch. If anyone has a decent spatial filter I could even adapt that. Please PM me with your price.

I'm currently experimenting with split beam holography using optical fibers - Great fun

    Cheers

    Jem

What diameter fiber are you launching into?

Single mode fiber around 6um to 10um

Wow, that's tiny you might get 50% of the power out max. I would recommend using something much larger. Are you using a microscope objective as a launch? If so I have a perfect one for the application I could sell.

Yea, I know it's tiny but it needs to be single mode to preserve the coherence length and not muck up the polarisation too much. The polarisation isn't too important as i'm using the fibers for object illumination and once the beam hits the object the polarisation is pretty much screwed anyway.

I have a 40x objective that i'm using but i've pinched that off one of my spatial filters. How much do you want for the objective and what mag is it, I guess I could use a 50x or 60x.

    Cheers

It is a 50x with a 0.85NA. I would say, given the condition it is in, $100? I can have it out to you today.

So, I take it that it's in 'as new' condition then

What make is it and what thread does it have, is the lens on a sprung mounting?

    Cheers

It is by Nikon, it has a spring tip to it. This originally cost $4900. I'm not sure of the thread, but the OD of the threads is 0.800. It is in like new condition.
