What is the typical situations with guests/girlfriends/wifes? Do they pay a smaller fee or how does that work?
Hey Dude -
No, pretty-sure the LEM's are always 'PL-Members-only' pay, but, of course, if the 'significant-others' are gonna eat / drink, it would only be fair to have the couple
'pitch-in' a little-extra towards the food / sundries costs, make sense? [popcorn]
But, please-do note that, for safety / liability-reasons 'guests' / GFs etc need to be Over 18  ...So, sorry, but that 'really hot 16 yr-old you've been pining-for', is gonna have to stay home... *retardo KIDDING!!!! :)
capeach? :)

Moved this from the sign-up thread.

We really need people to pop over there and make a decision and commit.
<begin paste>
I dislike the idea of this falling apart at this late date. Let's see if we can motivate a few more to commit and then pay.
I have a few things here to offer as incentive. They will go to the first 15 who pay (as judged by posting time of the payment). Of course, you will have to commit before you can pay ;)
I have:
7 @ ca$hipro projectors that are missing the blue. These have all the optics (dichros, lenses, mirrors) and the red LED
6 @ sets of dichros out of ca$hipro projectors. These are full size, NOT cut down
2 @ sets of dichros from Snoctony (round - 15mm dia.)
In addition I have a few pen-style green and a few pen-style violet pointers that I can add as incentive for any more than 15 paid attendees.
Hopefully this will help offset the cost for y'all
Peace,
dave
Mmm, I see the draw for the 'concept', but I'm quite-certain they won't want a 'rave' there... 'typical events' there are like weddings / chilled-out private parties, etc - and
No way I am going to open this to the 'public', with my name / rep / liability-policy on it, Sorry... :)
You don't have to - come for what you can / want, and if you wanna 'put in less', well, then-do... I'm not gonna set a 'parking meter' on ya, ;) but if you set-up on Fri (which would 'logistically' be ideal / the-plan - Sat will not be for set-up, unless you wanna get in there early-early....) and stayed on Sat, it seems like it would only be 'fair' to put in what everyone else is... Sun, being there or at VNYs, will *totally* depend on how-many sign-ups / paids we actually get - Heck, if we got 25-30 DEFINTE LEMers - the cost would go-down, significantly...
The 'problem' is not the venue / cost of it, but that we don't have enough for-sure support... And no worries, if you 'for-sure' come, we'll leave the DF-50s home and bring the water-based fogger - not like we really need much, in that space, anyway...
Dunno - how hard is it? You tell me... I suggested this place, cause this LEM has been 'on the boards' since last Sept, just swirling-round in the bowl, and 'percolating' in thread-discussions for 1+ years... At *some point* you have to '*warn or get off the pot' ;) so, we're trying to make this happen, and I even put it out to 'vote' with the Poll, and this weekend 'won'...certainly not a 'rushed-attempt', imo... Yes, of course we can - and I'm sure will - make SoCaLEM v2.0 bigger, badder, etc, etc... 'Burningman PreOp', on the beach, there, is a great idea... Get it rolling and let us know!
You make the call of what is best for you / yours, Bud.... :) Unless everyone all signs-in, and CANCELS this coming-week...well, seems like we'll give it a shot...
peas..
j
Also, I've called around other places, and the rate that Jon is getting is VERY reasonable.
anyone going that has any interest in non-coherent light i.e. LED lights? I've got a a little bit of experience with that kind of stuff and can bring a few. :)
Hey Kats -
OK, so, what are thoughts / suggestions for 'Dinner' on Fri nite?
My thinking was that if most-everyone is 'tight' on their Budget, we can get a 'PartyPak' from such places as 'El Pollo Loco' and/or 'Baja Fresh' / 'Chipotle', etc all at a fairly-reasonable price, overall.. And since the 'Metronome' has a full kitchen / food-storage area, it might be more 'time-efficient' than coordinating all going-out, etc...
Though, if all vote to go out to a local-place, there are some decent-eats, in the area, there, with 'party-capacity', ie: Shakey's Pizza, or - my vote - 'California Pizza Kitchen' http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...ons/icon14.png
What thinkums you?
j
California Pizza Kitchen sounds fine too me, but I'm up for anything.
Also, for those that haven't been to LA, like myself, here's an eHow article on how to blend in with the local wildlife:

I look forward to going to what's shaping up to be a very proper LEM. I could imagine making this a yearly affair to make up for SELEM only being an annual event, so far.
I'll be bringing my 3 watt green projector. Will there be a lighting stand or PAR can mounting clamp handy? I can use both, but don't typical fly with either.
-Jonathan
anyone interested in a isomet AOM (model 1205C-2) I pulled off a HeNe? I've got no ways to power it so It's free to anyone interested.
looks like I won't really have a laser to bring to this meet. I will have normal lights, though! :)
Well-
Cant do it. Sorry everyone. :( Too much came up and it would not be too wise for me to travel cross country. Had water coming into my basement to fix. Roof seems to be leaking from this 400 feet of snow we have gotten. ended up booking a show with what seems to be a pretty good client to keep VERY happy. :) and just dont think it would be smart to be too far away from all of this for a weekend.
I hope you ALL have a blast!! someonme drink a beer for me. Jon- really sorry man. Trust me, wish i could come but just cant right now.
-Marc
Yadda and I are paid up! And the chance of us making it out there Friday night is looking better and better ... see you all soon!
Would anyone have any interest in doing a *garage sale* of laser related items sort of thing>?
I have 3 Spectra Physics 127 high mileage tubes (the big loong ones) three red tide spectrometer systems, a gold mirrored ruby rod,an Nd-glass rod and 6 uniphase 155Sl he-nes. I also have a museum quality holography setup. Its a real solid high end system.
anyone have thoughts? is this a bad idea? a good idea? a stoopid idea>?*retardo
also, I have an ALC 60 X that is not doing well. would someone be interested in helping me out to get it running at full power again? it runs at a constant low idle. I replaced the tube this spring.it has a marlin gold box.
lemme know! worst case scenario its just a bunch of cool lasery stuff.
Nate.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdFQ7q6j2qE *retardo We'll miss ya buddy... if you should somehow find yourself 'compelled' to send-along a Kvant 10 or 20W Blue for
" evaluation / review ", very-well...I accept! :)
Call me up re: " that show " we were discussing... and that's an order from
http://dauntlessmedia.net/wp-content...er-300x225.jpg *retardo
Excellent... this LEM is shaping-up quite nicely... :)
@ sugeek and Vidal - Gr8 ideas guys - suggestion: (...and *not* cause this 'isn't the thread for it', or something silly... :) Start a 'SoCaLEM 2011 SwapMeet' thread, that-way, your fine offerings won't get 'buried' in-here... I'll be starting the 'SoCaLEM Rigs n Shows' thread, as soon as I get thru my 47 PMs... :p
ciao

Does anybody know what Bill Arkin's been up to recently? Holospectra is down the street from Canoga Park and I wonder if he'd be interested in showing up.
hey - is anyone bringing any sort of camera capable of HD recording? I'm trying to figure out wether I need to borrow one or not.
[popcorn]
Yeah ... let's get the Arkin Brothers here!!! They're a huge part of the history of laser light shows, lasers and holography. I bought my first spatial filters from them in the early '80s. They have a great collection of vintage lasers and holography equipment. And Bob, who I know better, is the kind of individualist that makes our profession so interesting.*retardo
I will have a *startlingly awesome* reflection hologram they produced at the LEM - won't say what the 'subject matter' is - I'll leave that as a nice 'surprize'... :)
RE: Arkins - yessir - highly-experienced Gents, both http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...ons/icon14.png (just do me a favor and don't 'hype' Laserium / the show-presence...you know - 'old competitor-sentiments die hard'...*retardo

One would hope that after 20+ years of water under the bridge, the fingers could stay in their holsters for a few hours. :th_cool:
camera body with video capabilities acquired.
can someone help me with the music? might want to replace the recorded audiostream with the good stuff ;)
5mbit upload at the dorms - hell yes :)
Do you know when you plan to get moving Saturday morning?
I am driving down Saturday from UCSB, and want to get an idea of when I should arrive. 10am, noon?
Certainly better weather than St. Louis. Should be a great time if anyone's still on the fence it's time to jump down...
Sugeek and swami have left arrakis and are headed to socalem. We've got thumpers and are keeping watch for sandworms.
Third stage guild navigator is folding space....
May the wind be at your backs and the worms fall by your wierding modules... *retardo Fold safely...
K, things are running a *tad* behind, we're but catching-up quickly - dealing with a few bumps with some and their travels, etc - I will be at the Venue ~ 4-5pm (!) Venue owners' name is Mory and Tel is 818.709.8080 - not-often answered, but leave a message, they call-back frequently...
My direct cel is FIVE EIGHT FIVE, 230 1038, sometimes, can't answer due to being on 7 calls simultaneously, ;) also, please leave a message...
The Light Must Flow... :)

I'll be getting there a little later tonight, probably after 8:00pm.. Anything I should bring besides the obvious (lasers)? Table? Extension cords? Clamps? Fog Fluid? Blow up doll?
Edit: Also, did we figure out a time/date for dinner?
hehe - we will probably need more extension cords! pictures of the venue to follow.
this is what the entrance looks like:

If the video suddenly cuts out it is because my DSLR overheated, or I ran out of memory card space. Please just wait for the video to come back, I am very sorry for the inconvenience.
Also, I occasionally reposition the camera to get a better view. sorry about the movement. The quality of the video isn't the best, either. It is hard to capture lasers.
The recorded audio was replaced as my camera's mic does not sound very good. I spent 4 hours getting all the parts synced up but I make mistakes often. Hopefully you won't notice too many.
