if he is preparing to selling RUNNING LASERS putting light out when you open the shipping carton...that will take time (blah, cdrh, blah blah)...if it is a kit with no diode that is faster An he will just have to wiggle your way out of the grey area but it is no different than the kits I sell....so to speak, in the CDRH eyes...It must be good.... because this is super top sekret NEED TO KNOW basis. :D My guess is a plan is still being developed on the many variables and price ranges for each product...but then again...I may have a monkey in my butt.*retardo (not saying that he has...im just saying I might)
had to edit...if your projector is certified then it is a component...but that dosnt escape ALL conditions set forth for manufacturing an OEM component...you would still have register it and be approved...so it is a KIT :)
It seems the diode/s are not included. I think its a good idea to get needed diode/s now. I have mine sitting here waiting. :D
Ah thanks for that, i didn't see that post.. Great stuff - I've got my 445 diode ready & waiting. All that remains to be seen is how soon you lot will have em. I'm waiting for a possible solution here in the UK
I think my diodes are getting bored sitting on a shelf ... I think I should get them two little homes of their own ;) depending on final price, of course >:)

Just after an update on how it is all coming along.
At this stage do you know how big the dual module is?
I am hoping there is just enough room in my green beast :confused:
(The green is my first build, it is nearly finished I have just got to install the PSU's, laser driver and scanner amps)
I have a show in 10 days and I have not yet fitted the power units or drivers into my green as I really need the dimensions of the dual 445nm module

Put me down for at least 1 dual. If the price is right in the end with all the other buyers I might have to go with 2 duals or 1 quad if it becomes available.
Hi guys, I've got an update for you! The test correction lenses from the manufacturer are here and check out good. I posted a group buy here for those who just want the lenses (or an extra set of lenses) in the group buy section. I also have a fine looking nearly complete prototype of the module sitting here being tested. The single and dual module will have a footprint of about 4.5" x 1.5". It has two centered mounting slots for 4" centered optical mounting bolts at the front and back. The module will be low profile and the beam height will be about 0.9" high. This will make it easier to mount on its side for a quad setup, but it also means you'll probably need to source some AL shims for your rig to get it to the height you want. The module will also have a full anodized enclosure. Single and dual options will be available. Still working on/looking for the TEC driver, it may or may not have to be external.

Ok, I added a bunch of info to the first post! These things are small and pack a BIG punch. Note that the exterior will be black, and the top cover will fit all the way down and be bolted to the baseplate.
Wowee, that's a nice kit, Doc. However, it's about twice as expensive as I was hoping, so I'm going to have to bail on ordering one.
Looks really nice drlava. It is clear that you spent quite some nights developing this. Could you provide a little more data on the final specs? Especially interested in these for single diode unit:
output beam profile at aperture,
beam profile at 10m,
max output and corresponding diode current.
Beam exit height above baseplate.

Litle more pricy then i thought but im well aware of the work put behind these so no complains here. Great work and im gonna scramble my pockets to get a Quad.
although a question.. do you Serial Connect your diodes? can i ask why not paralell?

Because serial is a waaaay more logical way to connect them, and since you can't use a 5V psu to power them anyway, it makes even more sense
Yes the diodes are serially connected. In this way, a 10V or greater power supply is required (12V planned) and if one diode goes open circuit, the other is spared. The chances of one diode going open circuit are very low, so there is little reason not to use parallel connections with balance resistors and a 6V supply if you prefer.
Note: the prices are using the high range estimate for a few of the items that I haven't gotten a direct quote from. It's likely the prices listed will decrease by the time a payment page is up.

very very nice kit. i will be trying to put some cash aside for this.
I know it's still early to talk specifics, but how difficult do you think it will be to align the lenses? I haven't had a chance to play with any 445 diodes yet so I'm not familiar with the beam properties. I know the beam has to be corrected with these lenses but I'm wondering how precisely they need to be set...
There will be a step by step process outlined in the assembly instructions for aligning the lenses. How hard it is depends on how steady your hands are at sliding the final lens mount forward and backward, at least for the final step. It takes me about 2 minutes to get the lenses aligned and locked down, so I wouldn't call it very difficult.
If Dr. Lava wants me to I'll post my results with the alignment. I get my lenses to test out the second prototype unit tomorrow and I can have it setup by this weekend. I'm very excited about it. I just got my first projector working last night and it could def use some more blue (and red!).>:)

Can you tell me the maximum modulation speed on the flexmod? Quick google didn't find it. I'm thinking of the point where a square wave input produces an optical output where the peaks of the output just drop below a constant amplitudeas you increase the square wave frequency.Maybe I should be thinking of the "-3dB" point?
