You'll probably need to contact Pangolin directly for specific memory recommendations.
Also, there's more to the upgrade than just plugging in the memory module -
there's also a jumper (solder trace) that needs to be modified for the system to recognize the additional memory.
Pangolin can help you out with that one, too!
If you're near Franceso, he might be able to assist -
if I'm not mistaken, his shop is an authorized Pangolin dealer & service center. :)
thanks, i didn't think it would be customer installable but since it seems like standard kingston memory i thought i bring it up.
why do you want to add memory?
Are you running out?
Both my controllers have 512mb i believe, and i never ran out of memory..
It will not work faster with more memory.
The "standard" configuration is 256 MB.
While that is probably plenty for most individual shows and live use, you can still fill it up if you start pre-loading a bunch of shows using AutoPlay...:D
ALSO -
This tip from FirstLight Laser might come in handy for some folks:
http://www.firstlight-laser.com/ini.html
Yes you are correct :)
It is already explained on the link above on the Pangolin website; The type of memory that the QM2000 uses "Single-sided DIMM's"
The QM2000 will support up to 512mb and some memory modules will need a jumper setting on the board to work at full capacity.
We at Pangolin recommend to purchase memory from Pangolin, or from a store where you can return the DIMM if it is not working.
If you want to use non-Pangolin memory read the note about warranty on the Pangolin website, http://www.pangolin.com/LD2000/qm2000memory.htm
Let me know if you need to upgrade the memory on your QM2000 board to 512mb. I have some in stock here or can point you in the right direction ;)
or you could just wait for beyond or QS2 qm edition... both of those will use the QM as a frame buffer so whatever memory you have won't matter
There is no way you use the full capacity.
Or your clearly:
1. doing something wrong
2. doing things you shouldn't do for a normal lasershow
Also the frame limit on the QM is not the maximum capacity.
Look for the LD2000.ini modifiy the max frames allowed. It can be cranked up way higher.
feel free to make it wayy more :)
(I just see it's mentioned in the link above too)
Secondly there are still uses for the memory.
For example LC-max still renders to the QM's memory (this is really needed, frame buffering is not possible while creating (only real time mode)).
Because of the nature of 3Ds max and also a renderer it has to be saved this way.
Off course they can change it but it will surely require quite some adjustments. *saving it in a temp file instead*
Same for LC-flash.
Though I can tell you that it won't run out of memory, you can surely take the 512mb but you default is really more then enough :)
Since I make graphics a lot with the QM I can tell :) take my word for it.
SO -
What is your definition of a "nomal laser show"? ;)
Take MY word for it -
Several of us know for a fact that you most certainly CAN use up all the default (256 MB) onboard memory.
This can happen quite easily if you preload several graphics-intensive shows using AutoPlay, and could also potentially happen with a single, planetarium-length show.
Some of us have upgraded the memory just so we can queue up a lot of Pink Floyd without worrying about show interruption!
And you are correct about the LD2000.ini settings -
The designers at FirstLight-Laser recommend setting it at 64,000, even with the default memory.
(That's discussed on their web site in the link I point to in my previous posting about this subject).
Also when you load up a lot of shows Autoplay asks if you like to set it to 60000 (it's not offering 64000 actually but 60000).This is with the software that comes with the 5.21 which i got yesterday with the QM.Dunno about older versions. I liked it , since it was one of the things i wanted to adjust and it offered to do it for me ;-)
Don't accept the offer. haha :p
that's a lower amount of frames.
the the autoplay program want's you amount set to 60000.
it will do so everytime you make changes to the max amount of frames.
despite changing.
There are surely reasons about it why this is done.
Though even 60000 is way more then enough.
There are MANY, MANY planetarium lasershows out there that are ONLY on ADAT and are some of the best lasershows made. I believe they are refering to importing them to LD which takes boatloads of memory.

Guess we'll have to learn ya at SELEM.
Yes please :D
