Also the frame limit on the QM is not the maximum capacity.
Look for the LD2000.ini
modifiy the max frames allowed. It can be cranked up way higher.
feel free to make it wayy more
Secondly there are still uses for the memory.
For example LC-max still renders to the QM's memory (this is really needed, frame buffering is not possible while creating (only real time mode)).
Same for LC-flash.
Though I can tell you that it won't run out of memory, you can surely take the 512mb but you default is really more then enough
Since I make graphics a lot with the QM I can tell

take my word for it.
SO -
What is your definition of a "nomal laser show"?

Take MY word for it -
Several of us know for a fact that you most certainly CAN use up all the default (256 MB) onboard memory.
This can happen quite easily if you preload several graphics-intensive shows using AutoPlay, and could also potentially happen with a single, planetarium-length show.
Some of us have upgraded the memory just so we can queue up a lot of Pink Floyd without worrying about show interruption!
And you are correct about the LD2000.ini settings -
The designers at FirstLight-Laser recommend setting it at 64,000, even with the default memory.
(That's discussed on their web site in the link I point to in my previous posting about this subject).
