They might be dangerous, but they are *LEGAL*. And I do not support any sort of ban on a legal, certified laser product - even if it happens to be a hand-held.
And that would do what, exactly? Are you so dense that you think this single act is going to have any effect on the way hand-helds are used in the future? If so, you are deluding yourself. We could start stop writing reviews on this forum.
I agree that a small minority of people are doing harm with them. I do not support a ban on these products based on that small minority.Don't you guys agree high powered pointers do more harm (people injured, pilots distracted) then they do good?
As I've stated before SEVERAL times, most professional laserists I've met also own at least one high-powered hand-held. And I'll be damned if I'll condemn them with the same knee-jerk legislation that you want to pass just to try to stop the pointer jockey crowd. We've had enough of that throughout our history already, and anyone with an ounce of perception can tell you now what the effectiveness of such legislation would be. (That is: zero.)
More to the point, the pointers being misused by these idiots are (for the most part) *already* illegal! That is, they do *NOT* conform to the federal requirements and are thus illegal to sell or import. And you see how well that ban has worked to stop them, haven't you? So now you want to make them "more illegal" because surely that will stop the problem? That is beyond stupid.
No, Wicked is doing the right thing. They are selling their lasers legally, as certified laser products. Which puts the onus on the end user to be safe with it. And if they are not safe, then that is where the enforcement needs to be. Not on the manufacturer.
