Prisms for 445nm diode front surface knife edging

So just to thoroughly beat a dead horse.

I figure that you will loose 0.015mm off of the previous beam when combining because of the fillet on the edge of the prism and where the coating starts.

Does anybody know lowest possible distance between the beams by knifing with standard mirrors without big losses but good beam quality.

For me the fact that they are *Exactly* the same dimensions and have a 'almost to the edge' good dicro coating is enough. The 90 makes it easier to machine things to hold them.

Remember that these things are tiny, so the rounded edges are going to be very small. Here is His closeup zoomed and straightened.

Best way to tell for sure is to just put a beam head on the mirror side, half on and half over the edge. The reflection will quickly show any imperfections of the edge and if you want to see it better just magnify the reflected beam half.

I was thinking about that too. Lasertack has a very nice ThorLabs beam profiler. He could just reflect into that and see what the beam looks like.

What he said...I don't know, but a beam profiler might make things look worse than they really are, but the result would be very interesting.

As you can see, there is nearly no profile changing. The Profile looks a little bit different, because the incident angle (laser -> beam profiler) changed a bit.

Yeah, till we get the pups-in to real-world prove em out, I'm feeling better about the 'chamfer-factor'... at that size, it's more of a 'skeef' (technical-term.. than a chamfer, but, again.. we'll see..

I'd suspect that we will, indeed, see some gain over the mirs, if for no other reason, than clearly, the R is much, much better than enhanced-Al.. and, the small bit of dichro that I found, with similar-majik R-performance, leaves me feeling encouraged about those 'numbers', above, but.. whether this will all prove to be a 'game changer', again, TBD..
