Strange, I cant even download it, or anything else, and I'm a member. Thats's F'd up. Sorry Kieth, I wont make that mistake again. They might have sold the server. You used to be able to get movies off of Solarmovie, but they changed the server location. Now they want you to DL an EXE to download the movie now, and of course thats not happening. I think maybe 4Shared might have gone the same route.

Optics realm have recently uploaded a new video on designing an Achromat. Way beyond my level of understanding but if someone fancies designing one this info may help.

I recently picked up a copy of Introduction to Modern Optics by Grant R. Fowles. It's VERY math-heavy, but you don't necessarily have to understand it all to get valuable information from the book. It's essentially a baccalaureate course on optics condensed into a 10-chapter book. It sounds intimidating, but it really isn't too bad. It has already taught me a LOT! I highly recommend it. I picked it up for $10 at my local used book store, you can probably find it on Amazon for a similar price. ISBN 0-486-65957-7
    Neat!

    Thanks for the recommendation
I am enquiring about getting a workshop at the moment and if it materialises, I will start playing with the optics that TechJunkie kindly sent me. A good book would come in very handy to go along with my experimentation although the math part frightens me a little

If you get a workshop (jealousssss), you should consider contacting the local high school and arranging a field trip. I was lucky enough to be involved in a program in HS that took me to MIT where I got to play in their labs for a summer, and that really got me excited about everything photonics-related

As far as math, I'm a business major, so I never made it past calc, but if you have a decent grasp of algebra and know what a derivative is, you'll be able to understand the basics. Knowing the Greek alphabet also helps a bunch, because reading to yourself in your head is awkward when you start reading things as "squiggly line times A equals other squiggly bit divided by funny-looking R"
    Neat!

Hahah, yeah, maybe I need to brush up a bit! I did electro-mechanical engineering in college and studied for my radio amateurs exam but that was a looong time ago. Most of it gone now. I can only remember my resistor colour code because I was taught it using a crude and slightly racist sentence!

I'm pretty excited about the prospect of a workshop - I have no room to do anything here and no money to rent. A friend has access to a huge empty building which has a area a little like a granny annex - ideal for what I want. It also has neighbourhood security guards who turn up mob-handed if the neighbours see anything suspicious.

so, i'm not allowed to come over?
suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Your more than welcome, I just can't guarantee your safety.

I'm on tenterhooks here, waiting to find out if it's going to happen,
