    Noob here...

How many people usually attend SELEM?

Is there a thread on the LSO training/class?

Is there a schedule of events/seminars/classes/etc? Or is it more like an old-fashioned HAMFEST?

    thanks.

Also, check your original posts in the "Laser Displays, Shows, and Scanning" forum ~
Brad (especially) and and I both addressed SELEM and the LSO course...

All the details of SELEM you can definitely find in THIS thread ~
I'm sure Adam (Buffo), the event organizer, will be along shortly to chime in!!

No promises yet, gona take a quick look!
Sure would be great to see you there again! Stay in touch and let me know how things look as we get closer... (SELEM has gotten a lot bigger since the last time you were there!)

Somewhere between 55 and 80 people. Of those, around 45 are laserists and PL members, and the rest are family and/or friends.

Yeah, Randy linked to it above. If you want more information about what the class is about, have a look on the ILDA website.

A little of both. There is a schedule for the presentations in the classrooms, but we don't have presentations running all the time. Usually there is one or two on Friday, and another one or two on Saturday. Beyond that we usually have a few smaller demo's scheduled at various times (things like Lumia demo, Scanner Tuning, or software demos), but even so there is a lot of free time for people to wander around and get involved with whatever strikes their fancy.

In the auditorium we have a schedule of pre-choreographed shows that are running more or less continuously. So if you see a block of shows listed that sound interesting, you just make sure to be in the auditorium at that time and you can see those shows. On the other hand, in "Club-SELEM" (in the cafeteria) it's pretty much a free-for-all. True, on Friday and Saturday night we will have a DJ in there spinning music live, but apart from that anything goes in there...

And of course, there are lots of impromptu demos and discussions that arise because this guy starts talking to this other guy, and they both have the same idea about something, and next thing you know someone breaks out a soldering iron and they're performing surgery on a projector. And that doesn't even begin to touch on the discussions that are running more or less continuously in the buy-and-sell area, not to mention all the fun that happens in the ion laser work room...

When you have some free time, dig deep into the thread history in this sub-group and read some of the SELEM threads from previous years to get a better idea about what it's like. But even after doing that, you really won't know what it's truly like until you go there. And once you do, I promise that you'll want to return again every year. It's one hell of a great time.

Looks like the Trotthouse Inn doesn't hold that many people, so do most folks stay at The Holiday Inn Express?

most people stay at the holiday inn express.

the advantage to the trott house is it's a gorgeous old bed and breakfast within walking distance to SELEM and the mayor of Newton cooks you breakfast every morning.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

A couple years back I stayed at the Best Western in Hickory off I-40. I got it through Priceline.com's name your price thing. I think I paid around $50 per night. It was a nice as the Holiday Inn Express but about 10 minutes farther out. It has a nice breakfast. Waffles instead of automatic pancakes. I missed hanging out so went to the Holiday Inn express last year. But, for people who want to save money and don't mind not staying with everyone else it is a good option.

Doesn't look like I will make it to SELEM this year, though. Using the money for other things this summer.
