It's an analog console with many precision multi-turn potentiometers, finding the same pattern twice can be a challenge, but a fun challenge! And that's the beauty of it! The addition of color modulation does make it more complicated. Sometimes I find that turning a color to full on, then finding a nice pattern I like, then turn turning the color back to the color modulator works very well. I'm right between finishing one Z-5c and waiting for parts to start the next, so I'll probably work on a few more tutorial videos.
i do the same thing with my abstracts. turn off all color cycling and intensity effects and concentrate on making an interesting base effect. then add complexities. it's very helpful when trying to find scannable harmonics.
suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Oh.... so.... there's more of a method to your madness than just mashing buttons until pretty light comes out, huh? I KNEW there was more to it!

You have to come to SELEM (or purchase a Z5 console) in order to unlock the videos!

Speaking of Z-5 videos... here is a short clip that I recorded on my iPhone last night, it doesn't even come close to capturing the glory.

Playing around a little more the the FFT feature in Beyond. Sure, this part is "canned" and the music does the work but you could throw in some live elements while this is running e.g. rotation events, chopping, even warping. I plan to have other effects along with this too. My Cokin star filter would probably look good on the corners. I'm trying to get a little more randomness into my cues to make them look less perfect. It's been stated many times that computer abstracts have a "perfect" feel to them. This video should have been longer but the battery in my camera died.
