SELEM 2026 Show and Events Scheduling Thread

Hi Buffo and everyone else!

Sorry for this delay post, have been busy days but here I am, have my plane ticket, hotel accommodation and visa waiver, so Im ready to go, still really unbelievable to me but so exited to be part of SELEM and here are the things Id like to do so you can organize where and when and if they are able to carry out. (Im sorry if my English isn't perfect this makes me a little shy haha)

- I'm definitely going to "Echoes" on Saturday 1st, I arrive that morning after a long travel so I hope to rest and then go see the live laser performance and meet you guys! Don't know the location and time yet but obviously is going to be posted. You could send me a DM here to share my telephone number and be in contact via WhatsApp, definitely having roaming to communicate and using uber.

- I'd like to do a light art installation, using projector, camera, computer and Arduino controller so people can interact directly with it, and if they are some random objects I'll map them by hand composing a site-specific, or walls or anything really. I'll have ready most of it on a Madmapper project. I just need a dark place and some time to set it up, hope to be early Sunday 2nd to do it. This may be running a couple of days so I can do other things Wednesday and Thursday. My equipment: Epson projector, MacBook Pro M4 max, Madmapper, self made Arduino controller, tripod, Sony Alpha 7iii camera cables and everything needed. I'm still searching info about electrical transformers and adaptors, I have to review equipment info also. Here are some references of my work on this area:

- Offer a Madmapper-Madlaser basic workshop, for this I would need a couple of laser equipments, I'll bring my two Helios Laser DAC adapters and can share licenses if someone is interested to bring their computer and experiment. After this workshop would be nice to have time to share my laser connected computer for laser operators to use it under my surveillance. I'll show the basics is the software, configure inputs, security masks, parameters, etc. Nothing like a TED talk! haha, I'll be there to share what I know and have fun.

- I'm part of a little music label, if I may, I'd like to present a little live laser presentation using some tracks of 4 of us, I don't know maybe 40 minutes or so, any night. And of course, love performing live laser with any kind of music, so any night if there is the possibility please, count with me! I'll prepare different Madlaser projects for this purpose. - I'll bring a few little lamps 3d-printed with clear filament, own design for the "buy-sell-trade". They'll be cheap, my intention always is to share art.

Well, that is for now, I'll wait for your feedback and we'll get things going, if some of this is not possible due time-schedule issues please let me know. My top priority is the light art installation.

We're all looking forward to meeting you as well! I've sent you a private message with some contacts (including WhatsApp) so you can stay in touch while you're in the USA. Also, for everyone's benefit, my cell phone number is (843) 324-0735, in case anyone has SELEM questions. (I've posted it on-line far too many times to be worried about restricting it now, lol!)

Regarding your light art installation - how dark does the room need to be? Also, would you prefer to have a longer distance to a large display surface, or a shorter distance to a smaller display surface?

My instinct would be to set you up in the "auditorium" side of the hall, but if you need a shorter throw or a smaller display surface, we could also set you up in the lobby area, but that area is rather bright, at least during the day... We could also set you up on the "Club-SELEM" side, but the screens in there are already pretty crowded, so you would have to project on the walls or ceiling in there. (Typically on the auditorium side we have front-of-house positioned opposite the dividing wall for the ballroom, which gives a *huge* projection surface to work with, even with the inflatable planetarium dome taking up ~ 1/4 of the room.)

We will have several spare laser projectors and video projectors available, so I'm sure we can set up a separate area for you to demonstrate MadMapper if you'd like. David Kumpula is putting a schedule together for SELEM, so be sure to let him know when you'd like to do any presentations so he can add you to the schedule.

The live lasers and music sample sounds like it would be great in the Club-SELEM side. Here again, just let David Kumpula know when you'd like to do that so we get it on the schedule. I'll have some extra projectors on the truss running off an ILDA splitter with a single ILDA cable running back to front-of-house, so you can plug your Helios Dac into that cable and control them all.

Also, while I'd like to say that we stick to the schedule, the reality is that SELEM is constantly evolving, even while the event is going on, so everyone is flexible. The "schedule" is, more often than not, more of a guideline than a hard rule. So if there's nothing going on in the Club and you want to play some music so you can do a live laser jam, we can make that happen.

No worries on the buy-and-sell stuff; lots of people bring things they want to sell, be it laser or electronics stuff they want to get rid of, art that they've created, or even just good deals on stuff they want to share with the group. (For example, last year I bought a low-pressure sodium lamp and a failed LED streetlamp that produced only blue light, not because I needed either of these things, but because they were so cheap that I decided I couldn't pass up on the deals.) As long as it's low-key and in the spirit of the event, it's fine. We just don't want SELEM to become a corporate trade show.

You bring up a good point regarding electrical power, however. The USA uses 120V, 60 Hz AC power, while Chile uses 240V, 50Hz AC power. I suspect that your video projector will not work on the power here in the USA unless it is specifically rated for our lower voltage. I know that a lot of electronics these days supports anything from 100VAC to 240VAC, at least for lower power devices like laptop power supplies and computer monitors, but you'll want to double-check any gear you're planning to bring.

I do have a single step-up transformer that will convert 120VAC to 240VAC at up to 10 amps on the output, but it won't do anything about the frequency. Admittedly though, frequency mismatch is mostly a problem with motors, but older linear power supplies can also suffer damage. (It's not as bad going up from 50Hz to 60Hz though; it's much worse when going down from 60Hz to 50Hz.) Here again, I'd check your gear to see what it's rated for before you travel. Worst case, you are welcome to borrow some of the spare equipment that we will have at the venue. (video projectors, laser projectors, speakers, amps, mixers, cables, tripods, t-stands, etc)

I can adapt to any place, my projector it's a common Epson Powerlite E20 but is rather new so is very bright. I think "Auditorium" would be ok. Part of my artistic Statement is don't knowing what or where is gonna happen, the ephemeral concept of the installation is related to live camera, images that won't repeat again. I'm thinking Sunday set up and Monday-Tuesday running, so Wednesday and Thursday I'll have my computer free to Madmapper Workshop and live laser-sound madness and happiness moments. This is what I live for, where I find my place in the world. Don't and won't have kids. A night owl experimenting all night, searching, learning, obsessing about it, making really weird stuff. So, please feel free to keep me in mind for any other instances you'd like.

I'm roping Jacob into co-presenting the latest n greatest happenings around EtherDream 4x and will have several projectors on site running them. I intend to convert a 6w OPT during the preso as well. An hour would be good.

Specifically, and at the risk of becoming a corporate trade show...

I'll have a dozen or so ED4X prototypes available for sale, as well as daughterboards that make use of its onboard interlock logic. So if anyone else has an OPT projector (or any projector, and wants a challenge), we can convert yours too There will be some exciting updates on production timeline, too.
