    Exclamation

You are a tease, Mr Jim.
Still no inkling of why we need CAA approval.

I did notice that the AIS page mentioned Jet formations.
Are you gonna shoot up a ramp attached to the hall in your Jet Kart?
Or was the hall double booked and we are all outside in the Car Park (bring generators and coats).

It has faces to names at the beginning and a whole bunch of lasers synched up doing a Pango show (For those that haven't seen it or been tempted to click the link before reading on )...

I for one like the idea of being able to visualise who I am chatting with and that show really sums up why we love this money draining hobby so much...

So, why don't we try something similar? I am sure we could cobble together enough lasers, cables and Pango's to do a UK version of the video. We could get really creative with the layout of the actual laser projectors and make it something really special. Plus the guys in the US and Europe can see what a good looking bunch of characters we really are...

One thing I noticed in the video which particularly impresses me is that all the guys had a beer in hand

    What do we reckon?

Looks good....reckon we could top that then? why not!!!!!

I love the selem vids and EVIL did a particulary wonderful job in putting the vids all togther , for some reason the group photos been forgotten at the last couple of meets and as you say its a particulary good memory of the event and good to know ...AND HAVE PROOF !!! that ... WANA and not the last sad geek on earth , more part of a highly specialised task force of laser profs !

Also rememeber we try and do it all nowadays in 6-7 hours .... they make a weekend of it over there !

    But we could too.
Didn't Jim say he could put up 10 or 12 of us on camp beds?

The only issue with that would be secure parking for all our motors jammed full of laser goodness.

We (UKLEM) tend to dot our projectors around the room pointing towards the stage whereas SELEM put theirs on the stage pointing outwards.

Mebbe Stage Manager Jim will have things all organised differently at this meet.

Smile General thoughts about Laser Enthusiast's Meetings

Actually, at SELEM we usually have the projectors pointing towards the back of the stage for the first day, and then out away from the stage for the second day.

The advantage for us with SELEM is that we've got the entire auditorium to ourselves, so we can control access. Plus the stage area is huge - something like 50 ft by 70 feet - so there is a lot of room for everything.

My personal preference is to have the projectors pointing out away from the stage and towards the audience, but some people like it the other way around, so we do a little of both.

The only exception was when we had the high-power green projectors running (Gottaluvlasers' and Platinum's). We had to have them aimed high into the balcony all the time, for safety's sake. But people could still walk around the lower seating area and be just fine.

One thing: Try to line up your projectors in more-or-less a straight line if you want to get a shot of multiple projectors all displaying the same show. And make sure the one's on the end are spread out as far as possible. That makes it easy to cover the entire field of view with overlapping beams. Talk about breathtaking!

As for a 2-day event - I think it works better that way. You've got time to tinker, time to try different projector arrangements, time to tell jokes, time to take a long lunch break, and time to fix the little problems that *always* crop up at an event like this. It makes it more social and a lot more relaxed.

Even so, at SELEM 2008 we tried to cram too much in, and at the end we ran out of time. Next year we'll do better!

As for the Florida meets - they work well as a one day event only because they are so much smaller. It's usually the same core group of enthusiast's at those events, and everyone has done it so many times before that the setup and take-down goes off like clockwork. Plus, we rarely have any presentations at the Florida events, so that gives us more time flexibility. (Even so, setup for a Florida meet starts at 9 AM, and we never get out of there before 1 AM.)

There is a huge grass field at the rear of the hall if anyone does wish to camp.
If your interested in an all nighter then I can ask the question? Trouble is what would they charge us?
