What would you guys say to a weekday event? I found what seems to be a nice place here in Jax, the only problem is that they have concerts for local bands every friday and saturday night. The only availability they would have is on a weekday. I'm waiting to hear back from them on pricing.

    Hey Marc;

You thinking about making the trip from CT to Florida for this event? If so, how does the 28th of March work for your schedule?

Not too sure about a weekday... I just left a voicemail for the theater again. With a person this time.

*Ahem* Umm, pardon the 'interruption', but I, uh, see something potentially cooking here, for me and possibly Marc: We (DSLI) ~99.9% have a gig on the 19th down there; my NY Tech is 'heavy with child' (well, his girlfriend is, anyway... ) and my NJ Tech is going to be out-of-country on vaca...

SO, if this were to lean more-towards the 20th / 21st - and, Marc, you were 'down' with being a 'DSLI Tech' on that 19th gig - that could be a pretty-cool 'coincidence', eh? (get paid, AND hitch a ride to a kickin' laser party, not baaad!...) ...and CT is (more-or-less)
    'on the way'...

But I know that site-availability / convenience for the 'majority' must rule over what Marc and/or dsli_jon can / can't do... but I'm just interjecting this coincidence / info, for whatever it - might be - worth...

...Besides, I just-might 'happen to have' a truck-full of lasers / projectors with me...

    Lemme know thoughts...

The 28th would be better for me, but if Jon and Marc can make it down on the 21st, then I'm down for that.

    Cool

Well, good news and bad news...

The good news is that it looks like we'll be able to use the meeting hall for the Triangle Boat Club for FLEM. The room is roughly 30 ft by 50 ft. (Maybe larger than that, but it's at least that big.) It's located just off Hwy 441 in Tavares, on the bank of the Dead River. Click this link and you can see it on Google Maps, just above the highway. Zoom in and you'll see the access road that comes off 441 (Burleigh blvd) and runs down to the hall. The hall sits perpendicular to the river. There is a Google street-view of it as well.

The room has normal ceilings (which isn't all that great), and it does have three support pillars (4 inches square) in the room - one at each end and one in the middle - but otherwise the room should be about the same as the one we had in Orlando. (If you'll recall, the one in Orlando had a 1 ft square pillar in the middle of the room too.) They have a full kitchen that we can use, and of course they have restrooms too.

They have no problem with us using fog machines (no fire alarm system!), and we can stay as late as we want. No neighbors, so we can be as loud as we want. It's a very private location. No pedestrian traffic at all.

The building does have some windows, and although there are curtains, they are white. So we'll need to cover the windows with a dark sheet or something. I can handle that.

They usually ask for a donation of $75 to cover the use of the room for the day. I think we can handle that! We have to take the trash out when we leave, and I'll probably sweep up afterwards as well. (The building is close to my Mom's house, so I can handle the cleanup.)

The boat club is having a board meeting next Wednesday, and they will give final approval for us. I spoke with the Commodore last night, and he said he didn't see any reason why they would deny us use of the building. So it looks like we're all set!

    Now for the bad news:

It looks like we're going to have to move the date to the 28th of March. (AUGH!) I realize that this might screw up Marc and DLSI-jon's plans, but as it stands right now, the 21st is not going to work. (They've got some people doing some maintenance / repair work in the building that weekend.) The commodore mentioned that they might be able to move the repair work up, but that decision would need to be made by the board. I won't know anything about that possibility until late next week.

So as it stands right now, we're 99% sure that we can do it on the 28th of March. But if we want to go with the 21st of March, we won't know if it's possible until at least a week from now.

So what do you guys think? Do we go with the sure thing and do this on the 28th? Or do we wait and try to work it out for the 21st, even if we have to change venues? Your thoughts?

    Cool

Plenty of hotels / motels within a mile or two. There's a Holiday Inn Express less than a block away, in fact. Have a look around the google maps link and you'll see lots of hotels to choose from.

I'm sure there's going to be decent hotels around. Tavares is surrounded by several towns, Mt Dora, Eustis and Leesburg.

Well if the 28th is a sure thing, then that will just have to be it. I think it would be great if those guys from up north could still make it though.

By the way, nice work Buffo, I think we can swing $75!
