FLEM venue search continues

Hey Adam, et al....

Jon () what's the scoop? Will you be there or not? And what about you, Marc? You gonna fly/drive to Orlando that weekend? I need to know soon - preferably before Wednesday when the boat club board meets so I can give them the revised date and plead with them to hold off on the painting.

Well, spoke with our 19th Client today, and she assures me, "...we are a go..." and said they'd have the Show Contract signed / faxed by tomorrow... but you know how 'seasoned-people' do biz: signed Contracts are nice and-all, but: "...In God We Trust... All Others Pay CASH..." So I really can't give a 100% thumbs-up to that weekend, until I know that the 'check is in the BANK' (we don't trust the mail, either... )

But that could be as-soon-as tomorrow (Tues; hopefully...) so will let you know ASAP... I mean, I'm very-pleased that we're even BOOKING shows in this economy, but Deposits have been like molasses in January - in SIBERIA... ...

As-to Marc, well, I'd prefer to let him decide what level of info he chooses to post about his 'status', but I caught up with him briefly tonight, and while he assured me that he '...absolutely does want to go...', right-now, he is dealing with very severe family-crisises (sp?) and can't make any commitments to anybody / anything this very minute - poor guy is gonna need a break after what he is going thru... Save-up some 'man-hugs', lads...IF he makes it down, I think he is gonna need 'em... So again, will-advise ASAP...

Adam, do what ya gotta do.. if, for the benefit of the 'majority', you have to move-forward with the 28th - well, again, the 'majority outweighs the 2' - And perhaps if we (w or w/o Marc, depending on his situ's) are down there, but 'miss' the 'Official' FLEM...well, perhaps those that can get together the 21st weekend, can 'hang' for a bit / have a 'Mini-FLEM' / pint-swigging-session...

..no sweat, as we are shooting to have a 4W RGB Systems (the Hungarian-box) on the gig, and as 'emergency-back-up' ...yes, an ion WL, backing-up a solid-state - hah! ...but it runs off 1Ø, and not-much water. Soooo... could-be a cool 'Mini-LEM', either-way...

2 Times the new 2W RGB polarized and combined, or the 'old' BIG 4W unit? Have seen the 2x2W combi and it's HOT (well.. quite cold, but the beams look really HOT )!

Soooo... could-be a cool 'Mini-LEM', either-way...

Who needs a venue anyway.. Just make sure you have a power generator and a truck in case it rains..

Oh, don't forget to cut holes for laser aperture in the truck, saves you some (expensive) lasertime

Thanks for the info! Ok - I've passed the word to the boat club that we might need the venue on the 21st. We'll see what they say about that.

Assuming that they let us have the venue for the 21st, how does everyone else feel about that day? I know Aaron can make it, and Mo said he's free, but what about the rest?

I'm pretty sure DZ is up for either date, and I know that I can make either one as well. ljk is up for either date too. What about you, Frank? You up for a 5 hour drive from Miami? And if so, which date?

I still need to check with Clandestiny and Astroguy too. Also need to let Bill Benner know, but I'd like to have a firm date before I do that. (Bill is plenty busy these days!)

And Marc; I know the story. I completely understand if you can't make it. Family comes first. Sorry you're having to deal with this pal... Maybe we can arrange something later on, after everything has been taken care of. I'll let you know.

Well.. I'll only be able to participate if Jon hires me for a job in that area . Otherwise I'll have no money for food the next 10 years when the flight-tickets are paid

More info:

The boat club board met yesterday, and they have no problems with us using the building. (Hooray!) Also, the rental fee is less that I originally expected: Just $50 for the whole day (and night, if we so desire). They also don't mind if we want to do this on a semi-regular basis, so this could be a recurring gig for us. (Truth be told, they *love* the idea of being able to rent the building out for $50 per day!)

The only sticking point right now is the date. Turns out I was incorrect about the painting work they wanted to do being a potential conflict. That was for another area that is not at all related to this building. So we're good there.

However, there is still a potential conflict. (Of course! Nothing is ever easy!) Turns out the boat club promised the building to *another* boat club for one Saturday in March. Trouble is, no one at the meeting could remember *which* Saturday in March, and the person that maintains the event calender was not present at the meeting last night! (groan!)

I've got my Mom burning up the phone lines right now, calling around to try and find out *which* Saturday in March was promised to the other club.

Bottom line: If the 21st is still open, then we've got it and we're all set. But if the other boat club is going to be there on the 21st, then we're screwed. We'd have to move it back to the 28th, and that would suck for dsli-Jon.

I should have an aswer by 6 PM tonight at the latest, and I will post here on PL as soon as I've got it. (DocJohn, I know you need to book a flight... I'm trying to get an answer as fast as I can.) Everyone involved knows that people from out of state will be attending, and that they need to make travel arrangements in advance, so hopefully they'll respond with appropriate speed...

Also, it *is* possible that both the 21st and the 28th could be open. If that's the case, we *could* hold back-to-back meets if there is enough interest. It's something to keep in the back of our minds anyway, and we can discuss it on the 21st, assuming all goes as planned.

Man... I need a vacation... (Make that a lasercation!)
