    Default projector help

    Hi.

This is my first post so here it goes....

I love lasers! I've fallen in love with them since I saw my first show, so naturally my first thought was "wouldn't it be great if I had one?"

I currently own a chepa 80mW green laser..TTL. I'm tired of using a signal generator and 2 dc motors to make patterns, so I've decided to upgrade. I'm currently in doubt wether I should buy the Dt25's or SP20's. Since I'm more inclined to beam shows, I think that the SP20 are the better choice. Am I correct (I saw the reviews, but since I'm new with scanners, i want to make sure I buy the right stuff)?

Also does anyone konw of a good lens/collaminator/module to cannibalize for 5.6mm laser diodes? I'm looking for something that has an outbut beam diameter of around 2mm.

What is the best laser diode driver for red LD's....analouge modulation if possible?

    thanks

I'd go with the DT25s, I own a set of SP20s, and they aren't bad, but the DT25s are much better from what I've read. They also come ready tuned so you don't need to worry about that. But from what I've read, DT25s are far better, and they will be good later if you decide you want to do graphics shows.

For a red diode google for "LPC815" or "long open can", they come from DVD burners and can be pushed to over 200mW, they also fit perfectly into the common Aixiz housing. They're are a couple of members of this forum that supply analogue drivers and heatsink mounts that are perfect for the job, I'm sure they'll chime in shortly.

    - What I actually meant is for the housing. I have 2 650nm 180mW laser diodes and i'm looking for a housing. I have a housing, but I'm not happy with the beam diameter - it gives out a fat beam; 5mm, not ideal for show applications. I think I will combine red and green to form yellow and besides the correct power ratio, beam diameters are also important for good yellow beams.

Is the Aixiz housing capable of collaminating the laser diode to a beam diameter of around 2mm? If not, does anyone konw of a housing that is capable of doing so?

    Thanks

No, the Aixis will still give you 5mm ish beams, here's my setup with two Aixiz modules (with glass lenses).

Still better than most high power modules. Almost all direct laser diodes have a wide beam, special collimation optics are available but I'm not sure where.
