Hello, Its been at least 3 years since I looked into using laser diodes to construct my home built projectors. Power output around 8-10W or more combined. Can anyone please tell me what is the best solution for RED, GREEN and BLUE diodes today. I hope there have been advancements in the...

Hello everyone - I'm still tinkering when I can. Just purchases some new scanners just to check them out and see how they perform. They require separate + and - signal inputs. My output is currently a +/- sinewave. Does someone have a circuit that concerts a sinwave to + and - signals? The...

It's the post-SELEM "crap, I should have brought this for the buy-sell-trade area" special... Selling: PT-40k galvos. "40k" might be a dramatic overstatement, but they do work (tested this morning). Mirrors need cleaning, power supply not included. Asking $50 OBO shipped within the US.

At the 2025 SELEM meeting earlier this month, a number of people were talking about the ILDA Digital Network standard. There were some good ideas and suggestions. The easiest way to bring those to the people working on IDN is to attend the monthly IDN Zoom meeting. Hosted by Matthias Frank...

I've been scrounging through my old stock piles of electronics "stuff" to see what might be reusable and repurposed. I disassembled this 180MB Seagate HD of mine, an oldie for sure, targeting the platter stepper. Here are some pics and wiring data. From my testing, this neat little motor ohms...

I need help determining if I need a laser show variance (I am in the US). I am just a hobbyist who wants to display laser graphics on the front of my house on Halloween. I like for my house to be a destination on Halloween, and I set up decorations, arcade games (free play), a laser show, and give...

Hey guys, I have been dabbling a bit into more of the esoteric wavelengths; 561nm, 570ish, 593nm. As it comes to dicrhos I'll be honest here, I haven't really checked any of mine to test with the 570nm module. I would like to add it to an RGB module. It would be great to just have the yellow...

It's been a while since I have posted any build projects. I thought I'd share some of the upgrade work that I have been doing in regards to my fogscreen. Of course, my fogscreen has been my most ambitious build and the one I'm the most proud of. Over the last few Halloweens, I have noticed how...

Thank you buffo for the very detailed response! Even though my setup is not legit, I have been taking as many reasonable precautions as I can. Thanks for the reply, Adam. I might just go the knife-edging route. The "scan speed" of the transducer driven mirror is slow enough that a slightly off-axis beam wouldn't be noticeable. As for the guts, the halogen and focusing lens have all been removed. There is very little left of the...

Hi Adam, thanks for that neat suggestion. I could do the engraving on my CNC machine myself. I'll bet your 12" clock platter looks awesome. Surprisingly these 3.75" dia. platters make descent laser bounce mirrors and did not noticeable deform the beam shape, at least on the tests I did.

Thank you for sharing and debunking my 'be there or be square' theory. I understand that doing the show is a higher priority than recording video. To clarify Adam's point, the reason the commerce clause applies is because you have to *purchase* the laser projector. That purchase is the commerce that gives the CDRH the teeth to go after the seller's records, and from those records they can find the people who bought from them. You are...

Honestly, Edmunds was going to be my suggestion, but yeah - they're prices have gone up quite a bit post-covid. You might want to do some experimenting with the dichros you already have, though, to see if you can make it work. So long as the cut-off wavelength is far enough from whatever...

If you still have the platters from that drive, you can make a cool (and very nerdy) clock with one: take it to an engraver and have them etch the standard clock face numbers around the outer edge. Then install a battery-powered clock mechanism on the back (Amazon sells these for less than 10...
