Default Help - QS & Morphing

    Hi all

I'm just playing about cobbling together a few abstracts i've made into a show. However, i've hit an obstacle and would like some help please.

So, I have some cues (of my abstracts) placed on the Quicktimeline. I would like to morph these cues into one another, but I can't seem to find how to get them to morph. I'm sure it's simple, but I sure as hell can't see it. I can get just about every other effect but morphing them just doesn't happen... Help?

I realise this is probably going to be one of those 'Doh!' moments and i'll probably feel rather silly once I find the answer, but at the moment i'm struggling and would appreciate a pointer or two...

    Cheers

    Jem

I am new to QS; I just got a FB3QS yesterday and have been plugging away at this for about an hour. I don't see a specific "morph" effect anywhere, but it does it when transitioning from one cue to another so it looks possible. I tried importing an abstract from LD2000 and it stated QS cannot draw LD abstracts and suggests making a short show in Showtime and importing the small show. I tried that with a morph between two abstracts I made in LD and that works, but not that well. I'll see if there is an actual morph effect somewhere in QS on Monday.

Thanks for trying Aaron. There is of course morphing available when selecting cues manually.

Like yourself, I've messed around with this for ages now and can't see a way to do it on the timeline

I still think I'm perhaps missing a trick though.

So far as I'm aware Jem you can't morph them just fade them or cross mix.

Cross mixing is about the nearest to morphing you can get.

hey jem (and aaron if interested also)-

(there may be an easier way, but this is how i do it and its fairly quick).

    1) whatever 2 images you are using to morph, you need to export as an ILDA image first (or just use ILDA images you already may have.

EX- open QS. go to "graphics" and use- GM Logo and GE logo (or whatever you want). export each cue as an ILDA image 1 at a time.

    2) go to an empty cue somewhere and right click and click "CREATE" ---> "NEW FRAME OR ANIMATION"

    3) In frame 1- click "FILE"-----> "Place file into beg. of animation"

    4) choose your 1st image (GM logo)

(delete any extra frames that may have been put in. they arent necessary).

    5) add another frame.

    6) in frame 2- add second image (GE logo)

    (delete any extra frames)

    7) in top toolbar click "ANIMATE"

    8) On left- click once for what you want to be your 1st frame. On right, click once what you want to be your last frame

    9) in the middle, add as many frames you want animation to be completed in. Prob around 50 is ok. (or do whatever suits your effect)

    10) click the Preview Frame toolbar and drag to right. you will see your new morph. Save it as a cue and youre all set.

i know its not as eas as a set effectbut its quick and easy to just make a new cue.

I'm sure you know what cross mixing is but for reference:

Only other effect I could think is that you could you use a visible points effect to fade one into the other.

Thanks Al, but Morphing is morphing... not fading, and I *need* morphing

@Marc, nice workaround, but not that easy if there's a few to do. I'm sure it must be quite easy (for the programmers) to add morphing to the timeline as it's already in the program to be able to do it when manually selecting cues.

I feel an email to Pangolin coming on... Surely I can't be the only one who thinks this would be a cool addition?

    Cheers

Try requesting it for Beyond. It was on my list of notes.

I'm 99% certain the answer is "no" for QS. My understanding is that no more power will be put into QS as its thought its already been made too powerful. I would think any attempt to programme it in 3rd party would be locked in subsequent versions for the same reasons.

BTW Marc you can't export as ILDA from QS (unless you have a very early build). It now exports as LD2000 Frame Note format only.

You could morph in QS using Marc's method provided one of the cues was a drawn object as then you could re-create the 1st or last frame at the beginning / end of the drawn cue and use the animate button in QS to animate between those two frames. Placing the new cue and old together (no space) on the timeline would then achieve the individual effect as Marc suggests. However, given the requirement for at least one of the cues to be a drawn object the circumstances will be limited (its not going to work if both are synth, which 99% of beam cues are, because there's no access to draw editor. One final workaround here would be to create a new intermediate cue in draw by drawing the last and 1st frames of each cue exactly in draw (going to be very difficult to get the positioning the same) and then animating between your 2 drawings to create a new cue to insert between the existing cues to create the morph. The latter is only the complete workaround I can see but getting the position of each cue the same as well as sizing shape, positioning of colour gradients where animated and moving is going to be nigh on impossible in my view so I'd expect to see a visual jump using this method somewhere within the cue.

Am I right in thinking that morphing only works when manually changing a cue, but not with VLJ?
    This space for rent.
