Would a bird's mating song be more alluring if composed by human intellect? 🤔

Here's one from the early 70's that still holds up:

James Walter "Jimmy" Castor (June 23, 1940 -- January 16, 2012) was an American pop and funk musician. He is best known as a fun disco/funk saxophonist, with his biggest hit single being 1972's million seller, "Troglodyte (Cave Man)."

Soul Sacrifice 1969 Woodstock star is born and Carlos Santana's still going.

A long time ago a bunch of ILDA artists came together to produce a collaborative graphics laser show to "Troglodyte", and they showed it at the annual ILDA conference. I don't remember the year, but maybe Patrick Murphy will know.

I had never heard the song before, and I'll admit it was rather surreal. But the laser show they made to accompany the song was really good, especially for it's time. Bill Benner had a copy of the show and played it for us at one of the early Florida Laser Enthusiast's Meetings (back when we were still using the Telecom Union hall in downtown Orlando). That's the only time I've seen it though.

Speaking of funk, here's one of my faves from Bootsy Collins.

Here's a mix of funk and blues:

Yeah, The Streetbeeter - that's the stuff. (Also known as the TV theme song for "Sanford and Son", if anyone is old enough to remember Redd Fox, Demond Wilson, and LaWanda Page from their glory days!)

We just saw Santana a few nights ago! Great show -- and it even had lasers!!

Yes, for Santana they had 8 beam projectors set up. But it was mostly for ambiance and fill, they weren't the main attraction, of course. I tried to take some video/photos, but they did not come out great.

Some months back I revisited one hit wonders from the 70's portrayed in several YouTube postings, among them:

Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress - The Hollies
Blinded By The Light - Free Band
In the Summertime - Mungo Jerry
All Right Now - Free Band
I Can See Clearly Now...-Johnny Nash
You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet - Backman Turner Overdrive
Brandy (You're A Fine Girl) - The Looking Glass

There are many more, for sure.

and I certainly remember Gimme Dat Ding!

Oh yeah, I've got a few Billboard compilation CDs from the late 60's through 70's in the collection.

As for Gimme Dat Ding, I don't think it quite made it to the oldies stations. It popped in my head the other day and of course it's on YouTube- I really don't remember the last time I heard it prior (just a few decades, maybe). Time warp!

We both "groove" on compilation CDs from those two decades (and the 80's) I bet as well.

I'm quite certain the last time I heard Gimme Dat Ding was on KEEL AM radio in Shreveport, LA or KLIF AM in Dallas, TX in 1970. Hadn't remembered or heard of it until your post, so it was a nice time warp surprise for sure.

Here's another one from the late '69 or early '70 from Marmalade that I remember as very popular. One of the earliest video raster modulation effects no doubt and a precursor to similar laser vector modulation effects.
